Hi Ladies, I am pretty desperate for some hints and tips on how to deal with my morning sickness. It is getting WORSE rather than better. Early on my FS diagnosed me with hyperemesis gravidarum which is uncontrolled vomiting/nausea 24/7. I am on two different medications, I've chewed on Ginger, I eat dry crackers or toast at regular intervals...I am just completely incapacitated with this. I'm grateful pregnant and that baby was looking good at her scan 2 days ago but the morning sickness is brutal. I have felt constantly sick since 6 weeks. Please tell me if you found it let up soon? I'm dreading that it will last the ENTIRE pregnancy even though I am do desperate to be a mum! That's how bad it is. 😢

Not sure if it’s in your meds but vitamin b6 is supposed to help some women although it seems to be nausea rather than vomiting. Seems to be a ‘thing’ in the US (see link below) and no known issues with the foetus at these doses. You poor thing, that sounds horrendous. I have been doing frequent little sips of a good quality spicy ginger beer (eg fever tree or belvoir) and find it helps but my nausea is relatively mild. A friend recommended little sips of sparkling water-she wasn’t quite at HG but was really unwell.

Thank you so much for this! I'll get hubby to grab me some high quality ginger beer and sip that instead of Ribena! I've already been to the hospital for IV fluids and I just can't imagine this going on for another 6 months! My FS explained that it was very normal for people with HG to feel miserable but that I needed to let him know if I slipped into depression over it. I can endure anything for this much loved and wanted baby...but I just hope I can catch a break! I'll be happy if it let's up at 16-18weeks!!! I can do this!! 💪

You have my sympathy-this sounds wretched and I totally understand the dichotomy of being grateful but also feeling crap! Xx

Congratulations on your pregnancy. My morning sickness was really bad as well and what I did was just ride it out. My vomiting was so vile that i always urine my self up. It will stop about half way in your second treamester. Mine has stop now that I am 18 weeks pregnant but I still suffer bad heart burns. I take everything over the counter and prescribed and it wont go away. But I am assuming this heartburn is something as well I have to ride out. Also, when i drink the medication to help with the heartburn i tend to throw up even now. When i speak to my doctor she said i have to understand that the babies don't care about how we feel its their world now and we just have to cope as best as we can. Good luck to you and hope the vomiting/ nausea will stop soon so you can enjoy eating again and the pregnancy.

I am so relieved to hear it stopped about half way through the second trimester!!! That is the dream! I'm so tired of reaching for my bucket or dragging myself to the kitchen sink! When I can't stop vomiting I'll be throwing up every 5 mins! I can get a bite or two of toast in but it comes straight back up! I've barley eaten anything in the last 6 weeks! I've bloated like crazy (thanks to the meds) but I've lost weight! How does that even happen?! I'm going to ride this out because this baby is so wanted and loved that I will endure anything!!! I just wish I could eat good foods to give baby the best start rather than relying on her taking what she needs from my " body stores".

Hi Belangalo. Something I wrote a little while ago. Good luck! Diane• Eating small but frequent meals may help. Foods high in carbohydrate are best, such as bread, crackers, etc. Some people say that sickness is made worse by not eating anything at all. If you eat some food regularly, it may help to ease symptoms. Eating a plain (or ginger) biscuit about 20 minutes before getting up is said by some women to help. Cold meals may be better if nausea is associated with food smells.

• Ginger. Some studies have shown that taking ginger tablets or syrup may be effective for relieving nausea and vomiting in pregnancy. However, care should be taken, as the quality of ginger products varies and they are not closely regulated in the UK. Before you take a ginger product, you should discuss this with a pharmacist or your GP.

• Avoiding triggers. Some women find that a trigger can set off the sickness. For example, a smell or emotional stress. If possible, avoid anything that may trigger your symptoms.

• Having lots to drink to avoid low body fluid (dehydration) may help. Drinking little and often rather than large amounts may help to prevent vomiting. Try to aim to drink at least two litres a day. Water is probably the best drink if you are feeling sick. Cold and sweet drinks can sometimes make symptoms worse in some people.

Occasionally, hospital care is needed for excessive vomiting, (as with Kate – Duchess of Cambridge), to give fluids by a drip. Hospital care may be needed if you do not respond to medication, become ill, lose weight or become low in body fluid (dehydrated).

Thank you Diane! I have already been in hospital care for IV fluids and I really hope to not have to go back! 😅 They keep adjusting my meds and timings (I have an alarm on my phone to wake up twice through the night to take medicine). I'll keep going with the small meals because I can do anything to make sure this baby arrives safe and sound at Christmas! ❤❤❤
