Really down after first follicle scan

Ladies needing some positivity after my first follicles scan. 39 years old. Amh 10.6. 2 small follicles on my left side and 4 on my right measuring 11mm to 14mm. Back again on Monday. If I only get 3 eggs or less I won't get another round of ivf on the NHS. Any success stories with this few follicles?

Hi lovely, during my last cycle I had 6 follicles (3 on each side) at my first scan. At my next scan I had about 10 more that had obviously been too small to see at the first scan. They were small but they did catch up and at egg collection they managed to retrieve 14! So don't give up - see what scan 2 brings (I'm 38 years old and AMH is 11) xx

Aww thank-you so much for this. It's given me hope. I've had 3 chemical pregnancies and 2 miscarriages so I know I can get pregnant. Just so disappointed with this but trying to keep the faith xx

Have you previously had IVF? Just wondering if you're disappointed because you previously had a higher number of follicles? xx

No ivf. This is my first round. Just feel in a constant rollercoaster! Xx

Aw well good luck!! I would definitely try to not compare yourself to others. It is a rollercoaster but take one step at a time and you'll be fine. 6 follicles is a great start!! xx

Yes, absolutely hon. Especially in older mothers, it is totally normal to get fewer follicles. That really sucks about the NHS, and they should change that, because it's normal to get fewer follicles and fewer eggs when you're older, but sometimes older women will have a HIGHER rate of embryo and blastocyst formation. For example I am 42 and on my first round I got 3 eggs, all were mature, we got 2 embryos, and one pregnancy. For my second round so far I got five eggs, three were mature, we got two 5 day blastocysts, and am waiting after a fresh transfer. It only takes one! Xx

I've had my scan this morning with similar results - 2 follicles between 11 and 14 on each side plus 1 smaller one on the left too. I'm confused as previous follicle count was 8 prior to starting the meds and the nurse didn't really know why it would be lower now. Hopefully there might be some smaller one's hiding in there too that just need a little longer to grow 🤞 Trying to think positive that it only takes 1 good one!
