So just in my round of my clomid and my new consultant booked me for a follicle scan which i had to call up and get an appointment for today, after people saying no and not approving it i finally got a call back saying that they don't do it ands not part of there process.
Am i supposed to have one? Have you had one? Why are they saying i cant have it when my gyno put me forward for having one?

Hi Marybeth. It's really up to your specialist at your clinic to recommend scans or blood tests during Clomid cycles. It is often done during a first cycle to see the effect it is having on you. See what he/she says. Diane
Thanks for replying Had my letter today and it clearly states that as per nice guidelines it should be done and that she has requested the scan as she wants me to have it so not sure what I should do is it something I can push for if she's wanting me to have it?
I’d say you definitely need it, my consultant recommended it for me but said I may have to argue when booking the appointment as they may say they can’t do it but luckily I got an appointment fine.
You really should have it though because I’ve just been diagnosed with Ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome after my ultrasound. In a lot of pain and although it’s worked and I’ve released two eggs I’ve been told not to try to conceive 👎🏻😣
This is my 7th round i have 3 left, my consultant requested it but my hospital would not or could not book having a blood test on the 10th but thats it 🤷♀️ X x
That’s really bad! Have you had scans with the other times you’ve tried it? Maybe because you’ve not had any adverse reactions to it, but I’d still want a scan just in case to see whats going on and if it’s worked. Have you been ovulating on it?
I released two eggs so I was so happy, but then I’ve been told not to try because of the OHSS so I’m just here bloated and in pain 😣 xxx
Aww you’re joking! So all this time you’ve had no ultrasound? Aw I’m sorry I thought my hospital was bad.
The blood test shows if you’ve ovulated too if you go for that on day 21. Can you have that done at least? You should even be able to get that done at your gp xxx
No was just given the tablets an thats it so when my new consultant offered me the ultrasound i was over the moon but then the hospital have said no 🤷♀️ Yes im having a blood test this will be the first ive had so fingers crossed 🤞🏻How are you getting on ? Xx
Hey there! Just seen your post - I was also on clomid and managed to conceive on it. I did not have blood tests but I had regular scans - first round 50mg they scanned me 3 times - day 7-8, 10, and 12 or something like that. I was actually getting frustrated with so many scans because I was paying privately but they 100% need to scan you to see 1. Whether you are developing and maturing an egg and 2. Whether clomid has overstimulated your ovaries and you are now developing too many eggs. I was told that if any more than 2 eggs were maturing they will advise against intercourse to avoid risk for multiple pregnancy.
They did say that once they knew I was on the right dose scans will stop but at the beginning I think you definitely need them. Otherwise they cannot make a decision if you are on the right dose etc. Have you been having periods at all? And how many months have you been on it for?
Glad you conceived on it thats lovely! I had 3/4 rounds back in 2019 and i did get pregnant but with a ruptured ectopic so i lost it and my left tube then i started back on them in 2020 an had 3 rounds, then went to my new consultant in jan 2021 who has given me 4 rounds an did want me to have a scan an sent the request but my hospital have rejected it saying they dont offer that scan but i can still have my blood test on the 10th 🤷♀️ If ovulation tests are any good i think i may have ovulated around 2nd of feb so just a waiting game. Xx
Yes, I’ve been on Clomid too, and it really helped me. I ordered Clomid here - topsup24.com/buy-clomid-uk..... They always have good quality and service, so it might be useful for you. I completely understand your frustration—it’s such an emotional journey, and moments like this can feel overwhelming.
Yes, follicle scans are typically done during a Clomid cycle to monitor how your ovaries are responding. They’re used to check the size and number of follicles (the sacs containing the eggs) and to ensure everything is progressing safely, as Clomid can sometimes lead to overstimulation. My doctor scheduled mine for around day 10 of my cycle. It gave me a lot of reassurance to see how things were going.
It’s strange they’re saying they don’t do it, especially if your gyno recommended it. I’d suggest going back to your consultant or the clinic and explaining the situation—sometimes, it’s just a miscommunication. Alternatively, you might ask for a referral to another center that offers these scans. It’s your health, and you absolutely deserve proper monitoring if that’s what’s been advised.
Stay strong—you’re doing amazing advocating for yourself! 💕
