Baths and hot tubs after transfer?

Hi ladies! Does anyone have any advice on taking baths and using hot tubs after transfer (and then onwards into pregnancy of transfer is successful)? Online advice is a bit conflicting- some suggests baths are fine as long as warm and not hot as it’s the temperature that can be an issue… but others suggest to avoid completely so I thought I would check on here!

Hi lovely, I’ve always been told to avoid them. Good luck xx

Thank you! I think that seems right but I even found an article recommending (warm) baths for relaxation so was finding it all a bit confusing! Transfer day is Saturday so hoping for more luck this round! 🤞🏼 X

Thanks for replying, that seems to be the consensus and I have nothing about it in any of my paperwork or handouts! So much info out there and sometimes don’t know what to believe X

I know, it’s really confusing but I do have it in my paperwork somewhere with my new clinic (didn’t with my other). It just says they recommend avoiding hot baths and swimming post transfer. Xx

I’m currently 16 weeks and avoided baths. I just use our shower hose to have a wash - I would certainly steer clear of hot tubs

Sounds like quick showers are the way to go for sure, thank you for replying!

It is my understanding that baths for any reason are supposed to be avoided for ten days after IVF due to the needle puncture in the vaginal wall after egg collection. It is this wound, though small, which must be allowed to completely heal to avoid any chance of infection. Then, I think, in pregnancy it is due to the temperature issue, not really the water, so a warm but not hot bath should be okay. But ask your doctor first.

Thank you- part of what I was interested in was the reason for having to avoid so it’s really helpful to know about the puncture wound, I hadn’t thought of that at all! X

No very hot baths and no hot tubs at all I’m afraid both after transfer and during pregnancy! Then after birth still need to wait a bit until healed before hot tub it’s because the hot water raises internal body temp which can cause fetal development issues (especially in first trimester) and hot tub has the added risk of infections and chemicals to think of as well..... I am going in mine for the first time next week since last July lol totally worth it though 🤗 good luck xxx

Thanks for your reply! Added info as to “why” you can’t go in is really helpful. Oooh enjoy that long awaited hot tub next week! Xx
