DHEA - do you need a prescription in the UK?

So BFN this morning (not unexpected) my thoughts are already turning to round 2.

I’ve seen lots of ladies with Low AMH talking DHEA, I mentioned it to my consultant on our first round and he was a bit dismissive and said I would need to take it for at least 3 months but if I could get it then he had no issue with it. Looking at round 2 which will be a couple of months away I thought it might be worth taking it but looking online it seems I actually need a prescription in the UK? I’ve got to book a follow up consultation but I was hoping to book this a bit closer to starting round 2 and I’d like to get started on DHEA immediately. I’m a bit confused, I got the impression from my consultant that a prescription wasn’t necessary.

You do need a prescription but can buy from the US without (completely legally as it’s a supplement there). Iherb do fairly quick delivery with DHL (got all my supps from iherb) xx

As you have talked to your doc I would discuss with him. 75 mg a day is the standard dose in the literature but that is too high for many women. Ideally have your blood levels measured before starting (you could do it while you wait for them to arrive either via your doc or Medichecks) xx

It can have significant side effects which is why caution is warranted xx

Hi, my clinic told me to take it but didn’t offer a prescription. They just told me to order it from the US. I get it from Biovea and take 3 x 25mg.
