Anyone Taking Vitamin D3 To Help Concieve?

Hi I've been looking into supplements that can help the quality of eggs. And Vitamin D keeps popping up and from what I read it's a good vitamin to take while trying to conceive.

The problem is, I can't find a clear answer as to how much D3 to take? And is safe to take?

Anyone on D3 who hadn't has a vitamin deficiency blood test? How much do you take?

Many thanks.

Hi sparkle183

I personally took 5000iu daily for around 3 months before my ivf round. I didnt do any deficiency tests just took them. My cycle was a freeze all so whilst I have been waiting for my FET I decided it was worth testing (I was getting paranoid I may have been taking to much), also as I wanted to keep taking them before my FET. Anyway my test result came back today as 133nmol which is healthy, and optimum range according to 'it starts with the egg'.

I think it really depends on the individual as to how much will bring you to that range. I thought 5000 iu was alot but actually was just right. I think I will take one every 2 days now to maintain the blood level.

Not sure where your based but I am in the UK and I got my test from superdrug, was sent in the post and results back within a couple of days. Well worth it

Good luck x

Hi thanks for replying. Sorry what is a FET? I'm also un the UK 😊 and am also reading It Starts With The Egg.It's great that your instincts were right, it is so scary having to try and judge the right amount. We have an IVF cycle in August, our first IVF cycle didn't go too great as only one follicle grew to a mature size out of 3-4 Follicles. So I really want to get on the right supplements that could help ASAP. But my dr surgery is quite slow at doing appointments.

May I ask how you ordered the test through Superdrug? I don't even know what to search for lol.

Many thanks x

Hey!

FET = frozen embryo transfer 😊 I was expecting a fresh cycle but was slightly over simulated so had to freeze all.

If you just type into Google vitamin D test superdrug you should find the right page. Was very easy

Hi awwwww lol OK.Awwww I'm envious, I under stimulated so only got one mature egg and one immature egg. I'm REALLY hoping our second round will go a lot better but I have a low AMH level. But it's why I'm wanting to do what I can to try and make our second round better. We have our second round in August and can't get a drs appointment for almost 3 weeks and I can't delay taking Vitamin D that long if I want it to help before we have IVF. I found the Superdrug Test thank you. Now I've actually got an appointment I may wait to be tested until then but start vitamin D now. May I ask was it just vitamin D you took? Or Vitamin D3? Many thanks 😊 x

I think you should prob just start taking vitamin D now, I didnt consult a doctor on any of the supplements just started taking high quality versions. I took Vitamin D3 5000iu which I think is on the higher daily range and that got me to healthy. The book says that normally the higher dose is optimal for ivf so I just went all in! It didnt have any bad effects at all (as far as I can tell).

For my cycle I literally followed nearly everything in the book, even down to the NAC and alpha lipoic acid, I didnt do DHA as I was nervous to start this one without testing as it can impact testosterone levels I believe. I cannot be sure if they helped as it was my first cycle so nothing to compare to. I did get 7 blastos with 4 were good enough to freeze.

Hi lovely! Vitamin D is definitely safe to take, though (as with everything) you should ask your GP to test your levels before supplementing.

The optimal range for Vitamin D is 90-150nmol/L - the NHS considers anything above 50 "sufficient", but especially when trying to conceive you want to make sure you're in the optimal range. My most recent results were 91nmol/L and I still supplement with 5,000IU/day to maintain those levels. If you're quite a bit below that, I might start with 10,000IU/day and retest in a few months to see where you are.

A side note - Vitamin D and Vitamin K work synergistically so it's a good idea to take them together. I take the Vitamin D/K2 drops from Thorne xx

Hey, that's exactly what I was going to reply to say! I did my blood tests through Thriva and when re-checked Vit D after 3 months the levels had increased into the good range so now reducing the tablets. Good luck

Hey!My miscarriage specialist put me on 2000iu, 1 a day in the morning before breakfast. I bought mine from amazon from a company called pure & essential (brown bottle). Not sure if it helped loads because I was on all sorts of drugs for nk cells, but I am currently 34 weeks pregnant, so didn't do any harm!

Hope that helps!

I also took omega 3 after breakfast every day too x

So I bought mine from boots, omega 3,6 and 9, not sure of the dose as doesn't say, just says take 1 a day, it's in a blue bottle. Again, recommended by my specialist

Hi sparkle. it is recommended that you take daily supplements of Folic Acid and Vitamin D while trying to get pregnant and until 12 weeks pregnant. Unfortunately due to Covid and lockdown we have been depleted in sunshine, so we need the extra Vitamin D for that reason. Diane

Hi thank you for getting back to me.I am indoors about 85% of the time and am a very fussy eater so think I would probably have a Vitamin D Deficiency. I'd really like to start taking Vitamin D3 as soon as possible ready for our next IVF cycle. How much Vitamin D3 would you recommend please?

Many thanks
