Thin Uterine Lining

Does anyone have tips for improving the thickness of the uterine lining? I've had two FET cycles cancelled because I can't get past 5mm. There's no underlying cause that any doctor can figure out. I did have multiple early miscarriages before starting down the IVF path and wonder if the lining could have been the cause. I'm feeling hopeless. We are lucky to have many healthy frozen embryos, but I seem to have no way of carrying them and can't afford surrogacy.

I am having a natural cycle fet because of lining issues. Now my lining is the best it’s ever been. Maybe this could be a solution for you ? Speak to your dr and see what they say.

Hope this helps x

What medication are you on? Is your doctor able to try an alternative drug or adjust the dosage of what you are currently taking? X

I'm on estrace orally and vaginally. She upped my dosage with the second cycle and added l-arginine and vitamin e, but it didn't make much of a difference.

I’m on Progynova tablets, was 2 a day now 3 a day and they have been pretty good. Perhaps worth a mention? Best wishes to you x

I’m on Progynova for a donor cycle - not that I had lining issues before but I think on these my lining was about 8mm

Rub castor oil on your tummy at night and use a hot water bottle on against your tummy. But only until day of transfer. Not after transfer. Good luck x

Hello, I suffered with this for years as well. It is very distressing. But after 6 yrs of hell we finally did get pregnant. I never got above 5 but the embryo took. I believe it was because of the PRP (blood plasma treatment) I did in Greece. My amazing consultant does it and I really believe it was this that worked. It does make the lining thicker but I had to take buserlin for endometriosis which makes the lining thin. If I were you I would ship your embryos to Athens and do your transfer with Dr Melina Stasinou. She is so lovely and brilliant and I’m sure she will get you pregnant. If it can work for me it can work for you. I can send you her details if you would like. Just PM me. Dont despair.

My nutritionist suggested vitamin e could help. She was wonderful, all online so convenient & I honestly believe that’s the reason our FET worked when the other 3 hadn’t (plus 4 miscarriages, all prior to working with her). She’s called Rosie Life Nutrition & you can have a 20 min chat with her before paying anything to see if it helps you. Good luck xx

Acupuncture is recommended to help uterine lining and it also helps you to relax. Wishing you all the best for the future x

I’ve taken most of the above and had acupuncture. The other I’ve taken is Royal Jelly capsules. I take these for egg quality but upped it when my lining wasn’t thickening, helps increase of estrogen levels, also taken shatavari & maca .

Lots of walking helps keep the blood flowing too x

I didn’t respond well to progynova for medicated FET. For my fresh (failed) cycle my lining was 9mm at transfer, but for the FET it took a long time to thicken. Dr increased my dose from 6mg to 8mg, and then to 12mg when that didn’t work. Got to 8mm eventually, but it took over 2 weeks and lots of scans. I was told that some women don’t respond well to the synthetic oestrogen, but can do well with own natural oestrogen. Maybe a natural FET, or a FET with mild ovarian stimulation would help.... The only other thing I did was drink a lot of pomegranate juice and keep active with walks and yoga to keep blood circulating xxx

I saw a doc who specialises in functional medicine. After stabilising my thyroid, uterine lining got the 5 Brazil nuts a day (selenium) & lots of beetroot juice & soups. Sorry you are having this issue - so frustrating and feeling hopeless can be the worst part of ivf. Hoping you get some suggestions that help you change things. Good luck X

I’ve had 3 FETs cancelled due to thin lining. I believe I’m resistant to artificial estrogen as I tried 3 different protocols and couldn’t get beyond 5mm. You can try vitamin E, pomegranate and beetroot juice, light walking, acupuncture... But also as others have said a natural transfer could be good what’s important at is that triple lining. My last FET was a natural cycle and I got to around 7mm I think and I’m now 38 weeks pregnant. The other thing to ask about is a mild stimulation if you’ve responded to fresh cycles that was my next option. Happy to chat if you want to DM me xx

I too suffer from a thin endometrium, it’s so hard. Have you had a D&C for any of the miscarriages? Have you had a hysteroscopy to explore what’s going on? My recurrent thin lining is caused by scaring (Ashermans) from a c-section. Maybe worth a hysteroscopy to check what’s going on. Best of luck xx

I’m currently in the same boat as you. Just had my second FET cycle cancelled. First one I was on Progynova 6mg daily. Second I was taking 10mg daily, plus vitamin e also raspberry leaf tea, Brazil nuts and all that jazz and didn’t make any difference. My clinic have decided to do a natural cycle to see if I can produce a thicker lining without any meds. Good luck to you x

My lining struggled on the first two cycles. I said to them I feel like that was the reason as the failed cycle review so for the third they listened They upped my tablets I started on 12mg per day prog nova down to 8mg after day 12 scan to check on lining. I had pomegranate juice not from concentrate the Pom juice every morning for blood circulation, pineapple for the bromine and selenium from Holland and batter can also get from Brazil nuts 1 a day. And the usual vitamins. I don’t know which of these helped but it was these and a weekly back massage prior to transfer to de stress the combination of it all. I wish you all the best. X

I had a similar issue where I was on the stimulant injections for about 3 weeks and it still wasn’t increasing. Then when the doc gave my follicles and lining a final opportunity to grow - from my scan on a Friday to my next on Wednesday, my lining increased from 3.4 to about 7.5. The only extra things I took during this time is having red clover capsules, maca capsules, and 2-3 cups of red raspberry leaf tea. Try it! I’m convinced (and hope) this will help you too! Good luck lovely! X

i also didn't respond to estrogen and for me it seemed to be more of a blood flow problem. I went on pentoxifyline (800 mg/day) and vitamin e (1000 IU/day) and it seemed to make a difference - not a huge one, but I went from around 5.5/6mm to around 7/8 mm. I think i unfortunately wasted quite a few good quality embryos before going on this combination :( I also found that natural cycles with an HCG trigger were better for my lining than medicated estrogen cycles. The trigger seemed to also maybe plump up my lining slightly before transfer.

They changed my meds for the frozen rounds because of this exact same issue! Went from using progynova and a nose spray to using menopur on alternate days and my lining was 9.4! Best of luck hunny xx

Oh i feel for you! I also have always had thin lining with no attributable cause and its so frustrating. 3 failed FETs. 2 hysteroscopies - both normal. Could never get above 6mm despite trying everything - viagra, accupuncture, asprin, vitamin e, castor oil packs, pomegranate juice, brazil nuts, fertility massage etc. In the end we tried a combination of low dose ovarian stimulation (gonal f), clexane 0.4mg & baby asprin daily and it worked! Managed to get to 9.5mm which is a miracle for me! The only extra thing i did was drink a tonne of water to ensure i was overly hydrated, and went for 2 brisk walks a day to keep blood flowing. Currently in my tww so keeping everything crossed. Good luck!
