Norethisterone and Low Mood

Happy Saturday all!

Just a quick question, this is my first IVF cycle and am on day 20 of taking Norethisterone (5 days to go). Is there any association with taking it and low mood? I feel the last week or so I’ve felt really down. Could be a combination of things mind, this journey is so emotionally taxing anyway. Was just wondering if anyone else has had similar experiences? Can’t wait to take my last tablet 😅.

Hi,I can confirm that norethisterone can play havoc with your mood. Out of all the stuff I have been put on, this is by far the worst. I turned into a real witch and had very short temper the whole time I was on it. It did help bring on my period though, so worth taking and the side effects disappeared as soon as I stopped. Have you got long left?

Norethisterone are far worse than the actual ivf medications! They make you feel horrific, I was very snappy on them and awful to be around and 20 days is a long time to be on them! You will feel better as soon as you get a bleed xxx

Thank you Leea for replying! So glad I’m not alone in the way I feel. Can’t wait to get off them this week now and hopefully feel better xx

Hello, Catlady101Absolute horror, Norethisterone.

I felt so, so depressed. Some aches and pains. I couldn't focus. Some dizziness.

What surprised me was my clinic paid no mind to my complaints about the impact. Told me to carry on taking it, unless it becomes absolutely unbearable.

I can imagine your relief when you get to the last tablet 😊

Agree with everyone so far. It’s horrid. If you can get through the Norithisterone phase you can do anything 💪

Hi Elle, oh I really hope so! Be such a relief to be off these and moving on to the next part. Thank you again for coming back to me x

I agree I found norithisterone the worst medication in the IVF journey. I can no longer take it as it made me very mentally unwell. I hope you can get through this and best of look for your cycle x

Hi! Thank you so much for responding! I agree it’s not been great on my mental health either, so sorry it affected you badly too. Just a few more days to get through now 🙏🏻 xx

My husband would definitely agree with you about the change in mood! I was really snappy and awful while taking them, it was a relief when they finished. The IVF stims made me weepy but not foul tempered like the norethisterone. But it’s only short lived xx

Out of all the medication I have had to take for IVF, norethisterone made me feel the worst. Tired, bloated and angry. It will pass when you finish though.

I completely agree! Stims / hormones / pessaries / patches - all OK - but Norethisterone - I turned in to the devil!! xx

I never got on well with the pill when I was younger either - I tried 5 different ones and I thought I was genuinely going mad. Bring on the end!! xx

Same! Except I never realised until I came off it how bad it had affected me! 3 more days to go xx
