Low Mood - is this normal?

Hello. Second post this week but not sure where else to turn. I had my egg recovery on Monday and everything is still looking good with 4 good quality embryos on track to be frozen. I have mild OHSS according to clinic but feeling much better physically as the days have gone on. However, mentally, I’m feeling pretty rubbish. I feel really down despite our good news and nothing seems to be shaking it. I know I’m coming off a lot of hormones but is this still normal? Did anyone else experience something similar?

Hope you feel better soon. But the hormones really mess us. Hang in there

I would say that this is very much to be expected. There’s the effects of the medication but I also felt that my thoughts have been constantly preoccupied by the process and I’ve struggled with how slowly time is passing - personally I think this has had a bigger impact on my mood.

Just be gentle with yourself, allow plenty of time to properly recover, mentally and physically, and try to get out and about - I find that going for a walk or spending time in the garden can silence my thoughts and improve my mood.

Take care xx

This is perfectly normal. I developed OHSS after egg collection and the clinic did a freeze all. I felt really low having missed my chance for a fresh transfer and having gone through all the pains of egg collection and OHSS with no embie on board, facing another wait for an FET. Hang in there! Time will pass quicker than you think. I really recommend giving yourself some time and space to recover, looking after yourself and going away on holiday before the next rollercoaster, if you can. IVF is a marathon, not a sprint so you want to be in the best shape possible for the next round. I highly recommend reflexology too. Good luck!

I also felt this way when I did my EC. Fluctuation in hormone level can affect the mood. I try to schedule meet-ups with friends and family, go for walks and get ample sleep to help with my mood.

I feel exactly the same after stopping hormones, just sooo down. Don’t worry, it will pass within a few days or maximum week. Hope you feel better soon xx
