Hi ladies haven’t posted for a while but I’m back for my second round of Icsi next week and am due to try injections instead of pessaries this time round and looking for any tips on managing the injections as feeling a little nervous about stabbing my self for the first time tomorrow! Any helpful hints and tips would be very welcome 😀
Thanks

It is not as bad as you might think, you will get used to it very quickly, I tend to find the place on my belly with most of fat and inject there x My injection are under the skin not intramuscular though x
Sorry I can't help as I haven't started yet either but also interested to hear any tips. Good luck with it Miaow1975 and let us know how it goes for you x
Hi thanks for reply and no worries I’ve now survived my first injection and it wasn’t as bad as I expected. I used the breathing technique suggested by Hopenq and it helped a lot. Will see if I get any bruises in the morning 😀 x
Hi, I’ve really gotten so used to them now that they don’t bother me anymore. My tip is, pinch your belly fat, go in at an angle and use the part of the needle where the liquid can be sucked up through as that has the sharper edge and it goes in better. Some people Ice the area first. I also leave the needle in 20 seconds or so before taking it out to ensure it’s all in. Hope that helps? xx
Definitely not as bad as you think and this comes from someone who used to be afraid of needles! I ice the area a little first and that helps, also deep breath and go for it xx
Hi Miaow1975, I wasn’t a fan of needles so felt a bit anxious but honestly I found it fine. Like the other ladies have said pinch some tummy fat and I rested the needle on the skin then just pushed in. I always alternating the side I injected too which I found helped as I found after a few times on the same side it got a little sensitive. You got this ! Xxx
Hi everyone thank you for your support and encouragement I’m feeling a little less anxious about trying it tomorrow. Can I just ask if there is a better time of day to take them, morning or evening?
Hello, I tend to do them in the evening as I’m not so rushed. Unless it’s something like Buserelin (which I think I had to do twice daily), I don’t think it matters so long as you are consistent. x
I used a small ice pack before injecting to numb the area, and that allowed me to just focus on the injection as I didn’t feel a thing. Be careful not to leave the ice on for too long as you risk the chance of ice burn. I still have a mark on my stomach to remind me. Best of luck!
Thanks for your support first injection survived and wasn’t too bad xx
I agree with the others the injection itself isn’t as bad as you expect. If you are taking something that’s kept in the fridge then take it out a few mins before just to give it a little time to warm up a bit and change locations each day. I took mine in the morning because I knew I needed another injection later in the protocol that needed to be done in the morning so it was easier to do it all at the same time.
I had a proper phobia of needles but honestly it is nowhere near as bad as you are probably imagining. We have done three rounds now and we always plan a nice takeaway for after the first one (as it is an evening one. Kind of a tradition now but something to look forward to. After the first one you will feel like a pro!
Thanks for your support just survived my first attempt and as you said it wasn’t as bad as I imagined. Having a treat after it sounds like a plan for tomorrow’s 😀 xx
Like previous posts have said it isn't as bad. You will get the hang of it within no time and become a pro. I use be be scared of needles by day two or three I was able to do it eyes closed and in a jiffy.
My nurse told me to inject anywhere below belly button in the region of hip to tip.
My first tip is once you decide to inject. Don't hesitate as the prickly needle makes skin sting. Just be firm and go for it. First day I hesitated and the sting from needle pricking skin lasted for absolutely ages.
I used to pinch my skin and inject at a little angle. As I administered the medicine I breathed out with each push of the nozzle. This relaxes the muscle and eases the discomfort and pain. Leave the needle in a few seconds once finished to ensure no medicine leaks out.
I didn't bother with ice pack beforehand as i found the breathing exercise really helped. I would use hot water bottle for a few seconds after as the warmth eased and stinging pain.
