Hysteroscopy

Hello all.

So having a break before final round. Had some odd bleeding so went for a scan. The clinic have now suggested a hysteroscopy in which they will also take some biopsies. Was going to just have sedation bht am now thinking of general anaesthetic as i have heard it is painful. Had a bad experience during last ec so think i will panic if i am awake. Has anyone else had one of these and how did you find it?

Also finding myself feeling really low. I am fed up of the whole journey and can’t think of anything to get me out of this mood. Speaking to my counsellor later and then going for a run to see if i can run off my mood!

Sorry for blurting everything, just feel a bit all

Over the place.

Love to all xxx

Hi Judy, sounds like a good plan to investigate. I had a hysteroscopy with sedation and it was absolutely fine - I didn't feel a thing - they removed a polyp. For me it was the same as egg collection but if you'd had a bad experience with that previously then I would go for a full GA. The recovery is a bit longer (I felt groggy for a day after I had one) but in general its fine. best of luck xx

Sorry you are feeling so down, this whole process is mentally and physically exhausting and does knock you from time to time. You are allowed a down day but I know what you mean I hate feeling like that and would be going for a run like you!!

I agree with Millbanks I think it sounds like a great idea to investigate. all my hysteroscopies have been done under GA so I can't comment on the sedation aspect but I've had various biopsies, things shaved off, things cut in half etc and its always been really simple, short ops and quick and easy recoveries with minimal bleeding or pain. The last couple I didnt even feel groggy! At least you are crossing all the ts and dotting all the is before the next round. Heaps of luck xx

Really sorry to hear you are feeling so down. I'm in a similar position. My doctor has suggested we do a repeat Hysteroscopy asap before anymore transfers to try and rule out everything that might be causing the issue (it has been a few years since my last one). Just yet another delay / expense. I'm also very fed up with this whole process. I think it's totally understandable to feel this way! Talking it out always helps me a bunch though!!

I can't say what it's like without GA, because I've had GA for everything since the horror of the HSG, which was so painful for me! My doctor specifically recommended GA again though, so she can easily remove things if they are found. I think like other things it's ultimately a personal decision and might have a lot to do with the shape of your uterus how painful things are. Totally your choice! Best of luck lovely xx

Sweet Jesus my HSG was horrific too - I threw up afterwards as my body was in shock! xx

Wow! I would say I'm glad you agree, but I don't think anyone should have to go through that!! For me it made me afraid of every procedure since then 🤦🏼‍♀️ xx

I know right!! I know some people don't find it that bad so I think maybe I'm just a bit wussy! But I was super worried about my ERA because of it - but actually it was fine :) xx

I have had 2 hysteroscopies with biopsy and no sedation or anaesthetic for either. Minimal discomfort except taking the biopsy, which was a bit nippy but over pretty quickly. I think if they were doing anything more invasive they give a bit of local but I wasn’t offered anything more! I am a total wussy for reference 😂 xx

Thank you, I'm doing the same privately. It's way more expensive if I opted for GA so I'm hoping for a quick straightforward procedure. Your post has reassured me. I'm also wussy 🙂

They should give you some local if they need to anything more than a tiny grab biopsy, and the rest of the procedure is fine. I had ibuprofen and some buscopan beforehand to stop pain and cramping respectively. Hope all goes well xx
