So, I just had a baseline scan on day 20 of my cycle. My hospital wanted me to come back for a follow up scan on cycle day 1, 2 or 3 for two main reasons:
1) My AFC was low compared to the previous round- so she thought maybe it would be worth postponing to see if we could have a month with a higher AFC
2) There was some post EC fluid around my right ovary and a collapsed follicle was getting in the way of having a clear view
She said she was being overly cautious and gave me the option of proceeding.
I honestly did not fancy going back for several reasons but the main one was that my AFC was similar to the first round when I had the most success with 2 blastocysts. It was 9 then.
My last cycle was a complete disappointment. 15 follicles at baseline, 13 eggs retrieved and no blastocyst.
I told her I was happy to proceed with 8 i.e 5 on right, 3 on the left.
However, I am now second guessing my decision. Especially as they noticed the fluid- Anyone have a not so textbook baseline scan and go on to a successful retrieval and transfer?

Hi lovely, I’ve never had fluid, but my last cycle they only saw 3 follicles each side (compared to 8 each side the cycle before). I thought about postponing too but decided to wait until my 2nd scan and see how it was looking. There must have been some small one lurking because at 2nd scan they saw 15 in total. So all I’m saying is that things can change. Good luck with your decision xxx
