Too many follicles!

So I started my stimulated IUI journey last week. I took Letrozole for 5 days and went in for my second scan yesterday. I have 8 follicles growing! All at the same rate so far, so I might have to abandon this cycle due to over stimulation. I'm not quite prepared to be a single octo-mum.

Initially I felt upset and annoyed when the nurse told me. I don't have any fertility challenges, but I only chose to have stimulated IUI (as opposed to natural) because the consultant said it would improve my chances of success. Seems like it was too good!

After talking it thorough with my family, I feel a little better knowing that I'm able to produce so many follicles. I have another scan on Monday to check the growth of the follicles again and confirm whether the cycle will be abandoned or can continue with the trigger shot that day, only if there are 1/2 follicles that are thriving and matured to the right size 😬🤞🏾

There don't seem to be many IUI stories. It'd be really helpful to hear from others who are /have experienced this. 🤗

Hi Leash, Wow it really seems like your body is a good responder to the meds! I can completely understand why you'd feel frustrated. I feel a lot of the time with these treatments, they don't look at individual circumstances and just go ahead with 'standard' protocols. I've done a few IUI's and on the minimum dose, I produced one or two follicles. I know my clinic does follicle aspirations though if there are too many to reduce the chance of multiples so maybe your clinic might do that instead of abandoning the cycle. Although there is an additional cost to it so maybe it might just be easier to leave it until next month now that you know how your body responds.

UPDATE: I went back for the scan on the Monday and there were 2 mature follicles which was good news , but they couldn't see clearly on the scan how thick the lining of my uterus was! So I had to go back again on Tuesday for another scan, which was then all clear. I went back on Wednesday for my first insemination attempt.

I'm now on day 4 post insemination, in what feels like the longest two week wait. Fingers crossed

Fantastic news, delighted you were able to go through with the procedure, it's so hard when cycles get cancelled. Best of luck to you, just much distraction now, crappy tv or whatever you can do to get yourself through it!
