Hi all,

I just wanted your advice. My fertility doctor has told me to take 5mg extra of folic acid. This is on top of my 400ug that is in the pregnacare max tablets.

Given I am only a carrier - what is your experience of this?

Communication has been via his secretary- and I am worried this is an extraordinarily high dose?

What do you think I should do?

Hey, I too tested positive for the same MTHFR mutation and have been taking 1mg folate tablets daily, been having my levels checked regularly and they are optimal range so the 1mg works for me. Maybe start low and work up as 5mg is a high dose to start and your folate levels may not require that much support ☺️

Thanks for replying. Are you taking multivitamins as well?

No other multivitamins, literally just Vitamin D, folate and B12 xx

I’ve also recently been diagnosed with MTHFR. If you have a look at my last post, people have left lots of really useful advice below. I’ve also been prescribed 5mg of folic acid which, from my understanding so far, is the norm for people in our situation xx
