Hey, I believe it depends on what your clinic prescribes as well as whether you’re going with fresh/frozen transfer and whether it’s a medicated or natural cycle.
I’m currently having to insert 3 vaginal pessaries every 8h and also injection additional progesterone (as well as taking oestrogen x3).. I got my BFP and would be willing to insert the pessaries every hour in order to keep my pregnancy 🙂
Also, vaginal pessaries will be least of your worries as going through IVF you will have strangers inspecting your vagina internally. In addition, when having the embryo transferred you will most likely have around 5 people next to you whilst you’ve got your legs up in the air 😁😁
Hi, I was really anxious about using the pessaries, more so than the self injections, but I promise, it really isn't that bad, as Hannakallas said, definitely worth it for a pregnancy x
They were fine - I had to take cyclogest pessaries morning and night until 10 weeks pregnant. I had geared myself up to do them in the bathroom at home etc and was all prepared to do the first one then just before I went in for embryo transfer the nurse popped her head round the curtain and said “put this in, let me know if you need me to do it” I was like “errrr in...” and she said “your backside” then said the ones at home I could choose. So I just did it.
I knew I’d read that in the front can get messy and bits can come out in your pants so I just did them all in the back - absolutely fine!!! Nothing to worry about at all xx
Pessaries are a inconvenience but they weren't painful. Its just part of the process to help create a habitable environment for the embryo. All those hormones were the least of my worries. If possible, unless its a determining factor as to whether to proceed or not then i would suggest not thinking about it too much. It is easy to do, nuisance to clean but means your one step further. Plus, I agree its better then everything thing else that happens around there. Wishing you a successful journey.
Pessaries are fine, better up the bum than vaginally. Honestly, if you're willing to give birth, Pessaries are the least of your worries!
Pessaries are yuck and horrible up the front or back. But you get used to it. They have side effects like bloating but so do the injections. I had to take them from egg collection to 12 weeks pregnant and although I complained about them to hubby there wasn't a day that I forgot. Once you get your BFP you don't care what you have to do to keep it.
I know going into IVF seems huge (coz it is) but once you start having scans and start the injections etc your sense of normal changes. You may not like it and even cry about it sometimes, but nothing about the IVF procedure would make me not go through IVF. Yeah its super unfair it's all on us and it's very invasive, but totally worth it if it works.
I wish you luck with your journey xx
I think it is in most clinics, although you could probably request to use injections instead. If it’s any consolation, I was terrified about using the pessaries and they quickly became the least of my problems! They are actually pretty easy to use and were a nice break from injecting. Good luck! xx
