Timing of Sticky Blood Test (Thrombophilia Screening)

I have decided to go forth and get this 'sticky blood test' done. Although my clinic agreed to keep me on blood thinners, I decided it deem seem right to be on them unnecessarily and it is best to get the blood test done to establish whether this is actually an issue for me or not. My clinic charge £625 for the test but Nuffield Health charge £275 so I am hoping to go with them. I can't believe the disparity in prices!

I wanted to ask, for those who have done this test, how long did you wait after your negative test or chemical pregnancy to get tested? My clinic said I can have the test done ASAP but, from what I've read online, other people in my position have been advised to wait 6-8 weeks. I'm thinking to wait 6 weeks and then get the test. Obviously gutted as this will cancel my March FET but I think it's important to do the right thing.

Also, were you advised to get the test at a specific time of your cycle or is any time representative enough?

Thank you all!

Hi hun. I had my thrombophilia test done about 4 months after losing my daughter, when I had a follow appointment with the consultants and they never asked me where I was in my cycle, so I don't think it has to be at a specific time xXx

Thrombophilia screen is a very complex test so it depends what you requested to check. Usually protein C and S and APCR it is taking 1-2 weeks max, blood clotting is taking only few days. I did thrombophilia screen and some genetic test and all results came back in less than 3 weeks. You don't need to do the tests at a specific time during your cycle but make sure that in case you are or been recently on blood thinner to inform the lab as results will be influenced by that. If you have more questions please feel free to ask 🤗♥️

Thank you for your reply, that is mega helpful! The screening by Nuffield Health includes the following:

Full Blood Count, INR, APTT, Factor V Leiden, Factor II Gene, MTHFR Gene, Fibrinogen, Act Prot Res, Lupus Anticoagulant, Protein C & S, Cardiolipin Antibodies and Anti-thrombin III

Hoping that is okay. I was on blood thinners for about 16 days. I’m hoping the 6 week gap since stopping will be enough for them to leave my system. Fingers crossed for some answers soon! 🤞🏽 Xx

I had almost all mentioned tests done. I was also on blood thinner few good weeks before my blood test. My results are all good apart from MHFR 😥 , I will have to be on blood thinner troughout all my pregnancy (when I will get pregnant). Fingers crossed for you 🤞🤞
