Anyone have experience of low Vit D levels?

Hi all,

Im starting buserelin injections for IVF round no.3 tonight and did a few tests recently to check levels including Vitamin D. It came back 56 nmols so technically adequate but a bit borderline. Should ideally be 75nmols I believe.

I don't know if to cancel this round for a couple of months and take supplements to get higher or if worth going forward. From what I understand it might not make a huge difference but as pay privately and want this to work so badly I should do everything I can. I just know in a couple of months we have a few other family and work pressures so now would be better from an anxiety perspective and trying to attend scans and transfer etc.

Anyone have any experience with Vit D levels or had a similar decision to make?

Any advice is appreciated! Thanks very much x

Hey there, I am from Romania and here the clinic did not even suggest to measure the level of vit D. Nonetheless, you should check with your doctor before taking any decision. In my opinion, the decision to postpone the process should be taken considering your age as well. The younger the woman is the higher her chances of getting pregnant. Best of luck to you:)

Thank you. I had investigations with the nhs for a year before 2 rounds with a private clinic so surprised no one suggested previously getting a check. Will definitely ask my consultant and I'm 39 next month so definitely age will be a factor.Thank you

Hi not quite the same but thought I'd share as may help you. I am a sufferer of reocurrent miscarriage and one thing i found when i was going through them is low Vit D and low folic acid. Once i got the supplements and took them i found i got a pregnancy with strong heartbeat and i feel that amongst other factors did help lots. They did find i have a clotting disorder too not sure how much ofan impact that has as I've heard mixed things from different drs. Wish you luck with what you decide 💗😘

I’ve always had normal (but low for ivf) vitamin D. I only really checked then numbers on our 3rd attempt as our 1st attempt it was all new, 2nd attempt I had a baby girl. On my 3rd attempt with FET I waited and took the vitamin D supplements but it ended in BFN. This time round I’m 65 vitamin D levels so GP just said take the 25ug one and that should bring it up quickly. 3rd attempt it was 46 and I had prescribed vitamin D for 6 weeks and it went up to 97 so then it was borderline too high 😂 x

Hi that’s interesting what impact would being borderline too high have on pregnancy? I know from reading vit D at toxic levels which is virtually impossible with just tablet form at recommended levels is too high calcium build up in the blood which can give kidney stones. Is there anything else to be aware of xx

I never even asked about what it meant if it was too high I just thought well I’m just below what it says is toxic so it must be ok and they never mentioned it but I’m a bit go with the flow it’s only after having a few rounds of ivf that I started to question what results meant & what I could do to improve them etc x

Thanks so much for your reply. Helpful to understand how quickly you can increase levels if take a high dose. Good luck with your next round xx

It may take longer than you expect to raise your vit D levels. Took me 9mos to go from 20ng/ml (50nmols?) to 28ng/ml (70nmols?). May depend whether it is a "winter low" or you've been low for a while. My REs wanted me at at least 30ng/ml (75nmols?), but went ahead and had successful FET.

At the 2 clinics I went to they regularly checked vitamin D and current clinic checks again before FET and will cancel if too low, so I assume it is a big enough deal to consider a delay. I know any delay is so hard.

Good luck!

Ah okay. Thank you for sharing. I agree if it's something that can impact success its definitely worth taking time to get it right. Congratulations on the successful FET 😀

Hiya Purple276,

After my first IVF cycle (fresh) transfer I was extremely low in mood and generally not great physically it affected me more than I expected. I went to my GP and had my bloods done. I do suffer with low mood but this was bad. I couldn’t seem to snap out of it.

This was early 2020. My Vitamin D levels were quite low so I was prescribed high dose to take for two months. Test was retaken July last year and were better. I have since decided to take a higher dose vitamin D. I don’t believe the Vitamin D levels in pre natal vitamins are enough so I take separates. I feel so much better for it. I really didn’t realise that low levels can cause quite a few effects on the body and of course it could have been a contributing factor to my first cycle failure( we will never know)

I am just about to undertake my first FET but feeling so much better this time. I know it’s hard but you need to make sure you feeling well enough both physically and mentally, for yourself as well as giving the best chance of success.

Sorry for the long explanation but hope it helps.

Take care of yourself and good luck ❤️

Thank you Lablover5658, that's really helpful and so interesting that increasing those levels had such an impact on how you felt physically and mentally. I'm sure we are all slightly low on Vit D this year after all this lockdown.

I've got some Vit D supplements ordered as my mum is a naturopath so recommended a good product. Hope that it'll have a similar positive impact.

Good luck for your FET and glad you feel in such a good place. Sending you positive thoughts and do let us know how it goes. Many thanks xx

I am sure the Vitamin D will help. We stuffer in this country with low levels due to the lack of sun ☀️ I know that people are now more conscious of it. Probably due to COVID and immune system etc.

Thank you for the positivity. Let’s hope this year is a good one for all of us on this Forum. I will update on my progress. I start Meds Monday 😌

❤️💕
