2nd IUI questions

Evening all, Following my IUI treatment during the 2 week wait, I ended up coming on my period day 14 post insemination (which was 6 days earlier than my calculated period date). However after speaking to a friend she said on her first cycle she came on her period early, and to counteract that the clinic gave her medication to postpone it to allow longer for the implantation stage. She was successful on her second try. Is this something anyone has been offered before? As our clinic have told us they don't offer it. We know are unsure of whether to go for a second try of IUI or wait 6 months for IVF. Any experiences/advice is welcome as our clinic aren't being particularly helpful. Sam xx

Hi Sam,Sorry your IUI didn't work, so disappointing. However, that timing sounds about right getting a period 14 days afterwards because you've triggered ovulation artificially so you can't really work off your own dates. Once you've ovulated it takes 14 days for the luteal phase until menstruation. Any shorter that that before a period could indicate a progesterone deficiency and in that case the clinic might give you some to help lengthen it but that doesn't seem to be your case. So on the plus side, your progesterone levels are probably ok! It might be worth another try but see what you feel yourself.

Ok yes that does make sense. I guess if the clinic would return our calls and follow things up we would have these questions answered. Thank you for taking the time to reply xx

You're very welcome. It's so frustrating when you have questions and you're waiting for the clinic to get back. It's such an important life changing process for us and I think the clinics can be very casual in their attitude sometimes. I also feel the more information we have the better we can advocate for ourselves and our treatment because it's not usually a one size fits approach which sometimes it feels like too. I know my clinic usually suggests 2 IUI's before moving to IVF but some people prefer to move sooner to IVF because success statistics are higher. Whatever decision you come to, the very best of luck with it xx
