Natural FET. Progesterone?

Hi everyone. I’m due a natural FET next week (4th transfer so doing a double) and my clinic do not test progesterone levels or give progesterone after transfer. So my transfer is completely natural. Thing is I keep reading that people having natural FETS are still using progesterone pessaries after transfer so I’m a little worried about why they don’t do this. I asked the nurse at a scan today and she wasn’t sure. Just said you produce progesterone naturally so don’t worry. I’m intrigued by this difference. Anyone done a natural transfer with or without and have an answer or idea? Thanks!!

Hi Maryc32, I am under going a natural FET and was surprised when the clinic suggested I start progesterone 5 days before transfer. I think they don't see any harm in providing support as it can't harm the process. They never checked my levels, just advised I should use it as support. Can you ask your clinic to either test your levels or just prescribe it for your peace of mind? Do you know your levels? X

Hi Mary, I’ve done natural transfers before. I think the idea is you produce progesterone the same way you would if you got pregnant naturally, and therefore in theory a sufficient amount. I was however always given pessaries and had my progesterone checked on transfer day. It was always well over the required amount so I probably could have done without them, but i think it was to cover all bases and precautionary. I would push the question of testing to the Dr if the nurse is not sure, they may have their reasons. Good luck!

Hi there, I had a natural FET last Wednesday and I too have not been given any progesterone support - I was only given progesterone support on my fresh cycles. They said my body is making all the progesterone it needs so there is no need for any additional (they did a 21 day bloods on my cycle prior to this one to confirm I was making progesterone though) xx

Hi ladies thank you all so much for your responses! I’ve not had my progesterone checked since early 2019 at my gp (just after an ectopic so not sure even that was valid). They said they don’t do it routinely at the clinic and there’s no actual figures for what a good amount is. 🤷🏼‍♀️🤷🏼‍♀️ just that if I ovulate I’m producing it and it’s ok.

They said some people choose to use it though.

I guess they know what they’re doing and I shouldn’t over think or second guess but I like to do those things 😂 and research to find anything I can do to help xx

From what I understand, NICE guidelines for GPs ask them to look for a 30 nmol or above (7 days after ovulation) to ascertain that you're ovulating; and producing enough progesterone on your own to sustain a pregnancy or a good luteal phase. I think if you're doing a natural your clinic should be concerned. For instance my clinic only suggested natural instead of medicated after I told them what my levels were. They still wanted to support my body as a precaution, I think it's worth investigating so you don't go through a cycle without covering the basics xx

Hi MaryI'm on my 4th FET, first 2 without any support meds at all. It's been a few years since them and a new consultant but for these last 2 FETs I'm on 2 cyclogest pessaries a day as well as 1 lubion injection daily, never had my progesterone levels checks to my knowledge but the consultant said he was keep to throw everything at it so who knows 🤷‍♀️ I've noticed from reading on here that every clinic seems to offer different things if anything at all so maybe ask again if you think it's something you need to be on I don't think prescribing it can do any harm it probably just comes down to money!! Good luck with your transfer though 🙏🍀

Thank you that’s good to know!! They’re checking my follicles via a scan so they can see it grow then collapse. I might see if I can get a test done to check xx
