I’m going for an internal scan and amh blood test tomorrow before our initial consultation at a clinic to hopefully start our journey to baby. I’ve panicked a bit tonight because I take supplements for my thyroid condition and one contains biotin. I know when I have my thyroid bloods I need to stop them for a week before so they don’t affect the results. Does anyone know if biotin affects amh blood results? I’m hoping not as I haven’t stopped my supplements, just completely slipped my mind. 😣

I really don’t think biotin affects it, amh is released by follicles I think. I’m also hypothyroid and always on and off b complex and I never had a random amh result over 4 tests.
Vitamin D deficiency falsely lowers Amh, so if your vit D is very low it could falsely lower it, but you’re probably taking that I would imagine?x
Thank you so much for replying. Yes I am taking Vit D & K2 combo. My levels have come up as they were very low to being with so really hope they’re in the right region now. I know it sounds silly to worry about a supplement but I just want to get it right you know x
Biotin can interfere significantly with the assay depending on whether they use biotinylated antibodies to detect the AMH. You will need to tell your clinic what dose you are on and they can verify with the lab whether the biotin will interfere, and whether it will increase or decrease xx
Right okay. I’ll take my B complex with me tomorrow and try and explain. They didn’t tell me to stop anything when I booked in. I really hope this doesn’t mess things up now xx
I wasn’t told to stop any supplements before any of my tests either but I know biotin can interfere at high concs with some assays. I’m not even sure if the repro docs would be aware (I work in a vet diagnostic lab and most vets would not be aware of that type of interference). I don’t know what detection method most labs use for measuring AMH, so it may not matter at all xx
