Well I'm on my 4th miscarriage (1st trimester) since jan 20.
Every single test we've had done has come back normal for the both of us.
I'm here asking for advice again because literally each health care professional tells me something different and im running out of energy to continue like this.
Basically my question is , I have strange thyroid test results that you can see from my previous posts. My most recent one done at the hospital during my miscarriage showed my tsh being 0.4 but my ft4 being 14. My ft3 was 4 something. The ranges are the same as my previous post.
one nurse said to me that my tsh was considered too low and that by aiming for a tsh of 1 or 2 instead is the ideal range for pregnancy. She said excess thyroid hormone can be toxic to a new pregnancy.
Anyway , later on the same day i saw someone else who said no your tsh and thyroid levels are fine for pregnancy.
My tsh has been in this low range throughout every miscarriage I've had in the last 13 months.
I take 75mcg. What do you think could happen if I reduced it by 12mcg? Maybe my tsh would go up to a better level but then what happens to that low t4 ?
On 75 I do have some racy heart symptoms and short temper sometimes.
Please any advice or ideas or points in the right direction 🙏 x
I am so so sorry to hear of what you’re going through 💔 I had a miscarriage last March and it was such a difficult experience filled with lots of heartache.
Have you heard of the Miscarriage Association? There are ladies on there who have experienced multiple miscarriages and are under specific care, someone on that forum may be able to help you?
I have a high TSH level - during my last transfer it was 5.6. I see a thyroid specialist every month for repeat bloods as my TSH is known to fluctuate significantly so I like to keep it monitored. I’m now on 50mg thyroxine daily and with my last bloods, my level was at 1.36 - my thyroid doctor likes it below 2.5 for a pregnancy whereas my consultant says anything below 4 is good.
I don’t know much about what low levels mean (as in what’s considered too low) so it may be worth speaking to a thyroid specialist?
Whilst my fertility consultant is great and I trust her completely - I’ve been with my thyroid specialist for 4+ years and he’s an expert in thyroid so I listen to his guidance when it comes to my thyroid levels.. it may be worth doing the same for you so you can rule anything out when it comes to your thyroid levels.
Thanks xoxo. Its truly awful and im sorry youve been through it too.My thyroid results seem so confusing, many forums say the ft4 needs to be above 17 for pregnancy but if I increase my levo my tsh will be non existent, thats right isnt it?
Ill take a look at the miscarriage association place tonight thank you. I guess the reason I come here is because we've had all of the necessary tests by the recurrent miscarriage clinic , including karyotype and sperm analysis etc, eberythings come back clear. It only seems my thyroid that could be causing it.
Youre right, ill call the gp in the morning and ask for a referral back to an endo and ask him to stay with me instead of sending me back once he's done one blood test.
I am really sorry for your losses 🤗 and I perfectly understand you as I also had 3 chemicals and all tests came back normal so far. Just to reassure you I been to a Recurrent Miscarriage clinic a month ago and while we went though my history I mentioned to the doctor that I am on Thyroxin. He said carry on taking them as there is no harm, but according with the new studies Thyroid is not playing an important role in case of a miscarriage. Probably you shouldn't stress much about that, I am not suggesting to stop taking your medications for Thyroid, carry on as I doing the same 😁 but I don't think it is coming necessarily from there. Did you check for NK cells as well or inflammation on your uterine lining(endometritis)?
It is not endometriosis it is endometritis. 2 completely different things. I am also waiting now to have NK cells test results 😤😣 hope by next week I will have them.
I don’t have much to add but just wanted to say that I’m really sorry about the miscarriages. It’s very unfair.Re your TSH (I’m definitely not qualified to speak about it, just from my experience), I was put on Levothyroxine when we started IVF and unfortunately it wasn’t monitored so it went down to 0.34 from 2.5 within 6 months. I was a mess, couldn’t sleep at night, heart was racing, hair falling out, I was crying a lot, nails got really brittle and weak. I didn’t even think that it was because of TSH but it was! So anyway, it turned out that they put me on levothyroxine by mistake and I’ve been off it for over a year now. If you are having heart palpitations, nervy energy and all that other stuff, I would definitely ask them to adjust your dose. Perhaps you’re taking too much and need to find the optimal dose xx
Yes, it was incredible how different I felt about 6 weeks after stopping. My nails grew strong over two months, my hair stopped falling out and became good again (that took about 6 months). And I wasn’t such an emotional mess. Seriously, I was crying a lot and couldn’t sleep, it was not good. Adjusting your dose should be easy. I don’t think that your TSH contributed to the miscarriage but it’s not good not feeling your best
It did actually! I was already exercising a lot but it made me have all this extra nervy energy so I upped it and lost some weight. That was a nice side effect I guess but was probably the only one
I’m so sorry for your losses 💔 I would recommend looking at the Tommy’s website about recurrent miscarriage and how specialist clinics linked to Tommy’s can help you. I believe there is a consultant based in Coventry, although I’m sorry I don’t remember her name.
It’s a different situation but we saw a Tommy’s consultant in Manchester after my son was stillborn and the consultant is widely known as the UK’s expert on stillbirth. All I needed was a referral from my GP.
Good luck and I really hope you get some answers x
Hi Francesca, so sorry to hear about your losses. I was wondering if you have had your progesterone levels checked? After my 4th miscarriage I discovered that my progesterone levels were too low from the start of my pregnancies. Once this was rectified i went on to have a succesful pregnancy. Best of luck xx
