Sensitive - miscarriage help.

I took a pregnancy test today , 3 weeks after my miscarriage and I’m still getting a strong positive line.

I do need to ring the hospital because I know if it’s still positive they check for retained tissue.

Just wondered how long it took for people to get their -ive on a pregnancy test after their miscarriage. I’m ready for things to be back to normal so we can start thinking about our next steps

Thank you. X

it takes some time. It took me about a week but that was because I had a low hcg to begin with. My GP did ask me to call them if I continued to get a positive or my blood test still noted I was pregnant.

I was the same as you - I just wanted to stop and focus on next steps. I think I’m in the midst of a missed miscarriage and honestly now I just want to move on. It’s the closure but if you have an option to call you hospital that’s a good idea.

I'm so sorry you're going through this. For my miscarriage I started bleeding proper on Christmas eve, and was still getting faint positives in the first week of January. I got my first stark white negative on 5th January (on what would've been my viability scan 😭). To be getting strong positives after 3 weeks does sound like a long time and I'd definitely advise getting checked out if you're worried.

Keeping everything crossed you can move through this difficult time soon and take those next steps towards your rainbow baby.

Hi, with my first miscarriage I bled for like a week and then nothing for another 3 weeks. I had to book a uterine scratching that helped my body getting rid of the remaining pregnancy tissue naturally, they also say it increases your chances for a pregnancy next time. Definitely go to the doctor to avoid infection etc… It will help mentally to put it behind you once your body goes back to normal. Take care

I’m so sorry you are going through this 🥲 I can see you were quite far on and it was a missed miscarriage too I found in my experience it was much longer than the earlier miscarriages to get a negative, up to 4 weeks I think but you are right a good idea to phone and check there’s no retained tissue. I had a scan about 10 days after the bleeding started where they had no concerns that anything was being retained so I didn’t call them but it did take a while for HCG to go down 😢 and everything to go back to normal cycle xx

mine took about 3 weeks but it was gradually fading and disappearing. I think if it’s still strong you need to go back and get scanned.xx

it took me 6 weeks to get a negative test after a missed miscarriage at 10 weeks (and four weeks after one at 9 weeks) - the early pregnancy unit did scan me both times just to make sure there was no pregnancy tissue remaining, so worth asking to put your mind at rest.

It did feel like a long old wait, hope they start to get lighter for you soon! Xx

I am so sorry for your loss. I would definitely recommend going to EPU and getting an HCG as well as a scan. I had retained products after miscarriage surgery and whilst they scanned me and said there was nothing there, it took over four weeks for them to finally admit that there was and that was after blood tests (which they didn’t offer routinely despite me going back three times). I ended up having to have the surgery again. It then took another three weeks for the tests to go negative but at least I had peace of mind tgat there was nothing wrong. Sending love x

I’d deffo call your EPU. I was told that if after 3 weeks my tests were still positive that I’d need to come in for a scan (I had surgical management). Hope it goes okay x
