To take mini asprin or Not????

Hi All

Following 4 rounds of ICSI (2 failures, 1 misscarrage and 1 chemical pregnancy) I am hoping to have a semi natural (using my own cycle wirh some progesterone support) frozen cycle in the new year and really dont know whether to take mini asprin or not. Our clinic don't endorse it as a rule however one consultant did okay it prior to my first successful cycle (misscarried at 6.5 weeks), we were berated by another consultant at a follow up....didnt take it for the last cycle (chemical preg) we have now seen a misscarrage doctor who said that taking asprin is the only thing he can suggest....really don't know what to do. Any advise/experience would be gratefully received. Xx

Hi Ang I had always read that a lot of clinics include it as part of their protocol, but I recently went down to Warwick for natural killer Cells testing and received some advice from them. One of the recommendations was to avoid aspirin altogether until at least 7 weeks as it can interfere with the preparation of the lining of the womb in early pregnancy. I’m also on steroids as my levels of NK Cells did come back high.

Doesn’t help with all the conflicting advice does it... even from your own clinic! I am currently 8 weeks 2 days from a natural FET, like you I used/am using cyclogest to support the pregnancy. Best wishes for your FET xxxxx

Thanks so much. Congratulations hun! Is this your first natural frozen cycle? I have also had the uNK cell tests at Coventry (2nd biopsy 2 weeks ago) but didn't ask the professor. Xx

Yes we had our fresh transfer (miscarriage at about 6 weeks), then a medicated FET (miscarriage at about 5.5 weeks) then this was our first try with a natural FET. Our last frozen embryo too! He didn’t mention aspirin to me at all, it was just included on the letter they emailed to me with their recommendations on, so I would think they will recommend the same to you xxxx

Did you prefer the natural protocol? I'd imagine so too....hoping to get our 2nd results by Christmas. Wishing you lots of luck hun xx

I took aspirin for my first failed ivf. Changed clinics. The second clinic did not advice m to take but I asked my new ivf clinic and they said they used to recommend clients to take it but they do not think it made any differences to outcomes. I took it anyway starting close to three weeks before cycle began. I got a positive pregnancy test. I kept taking asprin until 5 weeks 2days then stopped. 2 days after stopping I started bleeding. I went back on asprin. At 6w2d went to my normal gyaena who told m to take asprin. Scan showed that I had probably lost 1 baby and the other is still there but low heartbit 98. I m waiting for another test on 14dec praying the remaining baby pills through but haven’t stopped taking my asprin since. So I don’t know whether it helps or not but what I know is it does not harm. So will continue taking it until doctor tells m to stop.

Thank you. Wishing you lots of luck xx

My ivf consultant told me recently that aspirin is no longer recommended in pregnancy. My clinic has very high results so I always stick with what they tell me.

Thank you. Would you mind telling me what clinic you are with? Privately as were not allowed to say here.

Thanks xx

There’s no reason not to take aspirin so I figured I might as well as it can only do good.
