We have just started our short protocol and it is all so unknown, but I am feeling positive and excited really! I have decided not to prepare for either outcome, but just take things as they come on a daily basis. Just relieved maybe we are trying something else as the natural way did not seem to do much for us π₯°
Anyways - I was hoping someone could give me some insight into egg collection day. What happens? I am feeling a bit prepared for my part.. I will just wait to be called in, but when do they need the sperm sample? How do they ensure timing on that?
My partner is amazing and very supportive - he seems very calm about it all, so I do not want to put my worry on him as he seems to handle it all really well at the moment. I just feel a bit nervous for him. Someone is helping me with my part, but I cannot even imagine the pressure on having to ensure you provide your sample π
He has said he will struggle doing his sample at the clinic, so plan is to do it at home and drive it to the clinic. But I am just not sure timing wise how we plan this? The clinic said it was ok when we explained this plan to them, we do not live too far away. But what if clinic is delayed on the day? But I suppose that could happen even if you are there. Little things like this is just creeping into my head and just thought I would ask how others have found this day π₯°ππ€
Thank you so much in advance!

Hi. Good luck with your journey, it is exciting when you finally start π I had an egg collection in September. When I had the last scan before my EC appointment they explained exactly when to do the trigger injection and gave me a pot for DH's sperm. We were told as we live less than an hour from hospital it's better to do it at home. We tried to leave it as late as we could before leaving and I was anxious he'd have stage fright! DH said it was so much easier at home though. As soon as we got to hospital they took the sample off him and after my EC they were able to tell us the sample was fine π
Thank you for your reply! This has helped me so much!! I was just feeling worried as it is slightly over 30 min to our clinic, but they said as it was less than an hour it was fine! So I feel a bit better about this plan now. I think it has taken some pressure of my partner too. π₯° Planning to clarify timings with them at our scan on day 9. Thank you though π
Egg collection was a breeze for us! We had to go into hospital together. We saw the nurses who explained everything then hubby got taken away for his sample and I got prepped for egg collection so its almost done in tandem. I remember everything right up until just after I got into the theatre then its a blank and just remember coming round. I got given tea and toast and told how many eggs they collected then got sent on my way after a bit of rest. Good luck.xx
Thank you π Yes, was not sure about the tandem bit seeing as we are planning on doing the sample at home. But I think I get it now and we can work around it π₯° Thank you and hope you are doing ok and feeling well!!
If you are doing it at home just make sure you keep the pot at body temperature whilst taking it to he hospital. I put ours down my cleavage when we had to hand in samples for testing!!ππ€£ Good luck.xx
