Worried about sperm sample on day of egg collection

My husband is really anxious about doing his sperm sample on egg collection day. He has found providing samples from home for the purpose of sperm tests really difficult and is dreading having to do it at the clinic and under time pressures too. We felt relieved when we were told we could do a frozen sample before the day as a 'back up' but have since discovered that this would need to be done at the clinic too (which he's really not keen on) or delivered there within 20 minutes (which isn't possible as we live about an hour away and I'm not sure a hotel stay would make it any easier). So my question is has anyone else experienced this and what can be done to make it easier on the day? We're expecting egg collection to be around mid November. Thanks in advance.

Oh it’s totally understandable isn’t it?! Especially on the day when he’ll be worried about you recovering from the procedure...

I’m not sure of any other ideas than what you have already, perhaps a practice run before freezing at the clinic may help - not ideal though... Perhaps pre-loading some ‘material’ on his phone that he is familiar with may help?

Wishing you luck - we do forget a bit about the men, they have a big responsibility too! Xx

Thanks Luna. I’m really worried for him as he’s dreading it. And I know it’s a vicious cycle- the more anxious he is the more stressful it will be... Fingers crossed it will be ok on the day!

My partner had the same issue - we got him a cheap hotel so he didn’t have to use “the room” and we didn’t see each other until he had given the sample - he found it too distressing to see me go in for EC x

Thanks Anna. That’s one option for us we might take. Either way it will be a strange and unnatural environment for my husband to come up with the goods. I’m sure he’ll be fine. I just want to make it as easy as possible for us both.

Make sure you freeze some just in case...on our first cycle we didn’t have any frozen and he couldn’t do it on the day because he was so nervous so they had to surgically extract it! 😬

Thanks. Good advice.

My OH was called up while I was under the sedation but he said he actually got chatting to another guy there who was in the waiting room and they had a bit of a giggle about it being so ludicrous. Which I think helped eased the tension. Xx
