Just one fertilised...

Sorry I keep venting, everyone, this cycle is doing my head in and I have to let it all out somewhere! So after collecting 8 eggs yesterday, a grand total of 1 has fertilised with IMSI (this is why we need a ton of eggs, our sperm issues are seriously seriously bad...) So stressed waiting to see if it makes it to Saturday!! The clinic says they avoid doing day 3 transfers if at all possible, even if you only have 1, so I'm booked in for a day 5 transfer. In the lap of the fates now and we just have to wait. This whole process is such a rollercoaster and waiting for the next piece of news to throw you up or down is almost the hardest bit. Love to all xx

So sorry you’ve not had better news today but really hoping your little one makes it and this is the one.

Love4Spitz posted earlier she had had a little boy after only one made it so this could be you too.

Sending love and luck 💕xxx

I’m sorry to hear this, but you still have chance. This journey is constantly humoring over hurdles and once your over one and then facing the next. Are you doing ICSI? We have issues with low quality sperm (plus poor egg quality) and our clinic suggested ICSI for better chances and more control.

We did IMSI which is the version of ICSI with greater magnification, but sadly it doesn't seem to have helped. Hurdles, exactly!! It never seems to end.

Aww You still have a chance. My fingers are crossed for you x

Vent away, every cycle is a rollercoaster!! I dread those embryology calls, so scary and in our case not usually good news 😒 I know what you mean about wanting a tonne of eggs because you know your drop off will be big. You’re doing the best you can, both of you. It’s an uphill battle but you’ve got to try right, no regrets. That’s what I try to remind myself at these times. Let’s hope this one has good genetics and can go the distance. You’re not out just yet. Xx

Thank you!! So right, it is all down to the genes - that's what I remind myself when I start getting stressed about things like them not wanting to transfer it on day 3 xx

I wouldn’t worry about doing day 3 vs day 5 so much. Most clinics have lab conditions that are very good at replicating conditions in the womb or they wouldn’t be doing day 5 at all. I only did say 3 last time to save money because my clinic charges an additional £600 to take embryos to day 5 (cheeky so and so’s)! I would have rather known what condition the embryos were in on day 5 if I didn’t want to save that money. Will they give you an update on day 3 and again on the morning of day 5 before you travel in? Xx

LCharlton profile image
LCharlton in reply to Shirazlover2013

Yes, they should do. Last time the day 3 update was "they literally couldn't look better" and the day 5 update was "they have all arrested apart from one which is kind of forming a very early blastocyst" - that day 3 to day 5 drop-off is a killer! xx

Oh no this is a really testing cycle for you - as if IVF isnt hard enough adding all these curve balls in eurgh.. channelling so much energy to that little embryo and wishing you masses of luck and hope to read a 'great news' post on Saturday! xx

I feel your pain! I had 6 eggs collected, 3 of which fertilised with IMSI (I have sticky blood and low egg count and my husband has sperm problems too - what a mix). Trying to stay positive for Saturday’s transfer but in truth I’m terrified. I honestly think this waiting time is worse than the initial injections!

Good luck to you for Saturday xx

Thank you, wishing you lots of luck too! With three you have a really good chance you'll be able to transfer xx

I had always agreed with the doctor before Egg retrieval that if only one fertilised embryo, we will do Day 3 transfer and if more, wait till Day 5. The rationale is no matter how good the lab condition is, it is always better in the uterus if the uterus is in the right condition which the doctor can tell from the checkups. I ended up with only one embryo and did a day 3 transfer. I’m 12 weeks pregnant now. It only takes one to work the miracle! Good luck to you!

Had a similar call today, we have done IVF, had 10 eggs collected yesterday but only 1 fertilised and they want to do transfer on Saturday (day 3) devastated this morning but after reading lots of positive stories I’m feeling much better.

Going to the garden centre to buy some Christmas decorations as a distraction and maybe a piece of cake in the cafe!

It’s out of our hands how, nothing worrying or being upset can do, but remaining positive and having good distractions will help us ❤️

Best of luck xx

All the best of luck to you too! We just had a day 3 update on our one - apparently it made it to 8 cells yesterday but when checked today it's still 8 cells which might not be good news. The clinic's determined to push to day 5 on Saturday, so I guess by then we'll know if it's arrested or if it's just taking a breather (8 cells on day 2 does sound like the first couple of days went pretty fast to me, but who knows...) xx
