Only one / four retrieved has fertilised normally. One degenerated post injection, the other two 2 didn’t fertilise at all - no pronucleus. My husbands sperm motility was 37 best its been apparently.
Worse result than last time where 2/3 fertilised but didnt make it to blasto. I wasnt down for a fresh transfer last time else I would have transfered them anyway. I have asked about the possibility of a day 3 transfer given what happened last time - told no its against policy. (NHS)
Gutted. Used calcium ionophore this time and fertilisation rate was WORSE 1/4 compared to 2/3
I have been doing everything right. Diet, suplements, yoga, acupuncture. FFS !! why is this so horrible and hard?
Booked provisionally for transfer on the 14th but hard to hold onto hope for this poor little egg. What a weekend this is going to be.

Ohhh, sorry to hear this. I'm unsure why they are saying it's NHS policy, as I know that my NHS clinic does day 3 transfers in London. But day 5 is always encouraged if there are more than 3-4 embryos in the running at day 3. Are you self-funding?
Be kind and gentle to yourself. You have done everything you can to make things work.
I'm so sorry to hear this, I have had similar in the past and it is really hard news especially when you've worked hard to improve results. I have seen situations however where the one egg fertilised turned into a well formed day 5 embryo so will keep fingers crossed for you.
Londonlady2024 Yes - the embryologist called me back after I requested it to be considered to say this is not their policy 😡
However - it is written on my discharge notes ''the next steps ''The embryologist will schedule you in for your transfer on either day 3 or 5'' (this is dated 2022)
Hi, that may explain their rules, restrictions and flexibility. Still though, but odd. If you were a self-funding NHS patient then you would easily have a day 3 transfer granted especially as you have such low numbers. I really hope that you have a positive outcome by day 5.
I’m so sorry🥲 it’s so hard when you’ve put so much into it and results are less than last time! I have my everything crossed for your little embryo though! Come on little ine grow grow grow!! 💪🏼
Btw it’s defo not nhs policy to not do a day 3 transfer. If they can tell which embryo is best by day 3 (which they can with 1 ) then our clinic do a day 3 transfer, if not its day 5 both nhs patients and self funded. It must just be your actual clinics policy but defo not nhs!
sorry to hear this. I had 6 eggs retrieved on my last round and embryologist called me on day 1 to say only 1 had fertilised, I was the same gutted. But that 1 made it all the way to blast and was transferred. It only takes 1 😊. Hoping this little emb makes it for you xx
So hard when this happens! This has happened to me on all 3 rounds of ivf my first 2 rounds the one egg that fertilised made it to top quality blasts and my last round they transferred at 8 cell embryo back on day 3 and it stuck! If I was you I’d push for a day 3 transfer.. it doesn’t make any difference to them and doesn’t cost the nhs anymore money!
But it does only take one and that one could be your lucky one.. good luck✨
The exact same thing happened to me and I lost all hope. I cried all weekend and prepared myself for the worst. They transferred on day 3. It was a self funded round in NHS hospital so they would have done the same regardless. This was the only embryo that stuck in 5 IVF rounds and I'm approaching my due date. I'm so sorry you're having a hard time pushing for day 3 transfer. I have everything crossed for you x stay strong and push as much as you can xx
I had only 1 fertilise out of 10. When the embryologist called to tell me I felt like I'd been punched in the stomach. It did make it to day 5 (I was doing freeze all due to OHSS risk). It feels so unfair when you are putting all your effort in. I would push for the day 3 transfer. Good luck to you.
I'm surprised to hear they can't do a day 3 transfer saying its against the policy. I did transferred 2 day 3 embryo which was successful. So I do not get it. Please look after yourself and all the best. xx
So sorry to hear this Cupppatea - on my first round only 1 of 4 mature eggs fertilised (of 7 retrieved), but it made it to blastocyst, so there's definitely hope for you, too... and it briefly stuck (quickly became a chemical though). This time none of 5 mature ones fertilised, and I was pretty devastated.
I believe the evidence is best for Day 5, and that earlier transfers that work are probably the ones that would have made it to Day 5 anyway, so it's probably not going to hurt it to incubate a little longer. Wishing you all the best.
thanks everyone for the comments. I will see the status of the embryo tomorrow I guess. The wait is agonising, I know I won’t sleep well. So how many cells should we be looking at on day 3?
The embryo is alive and a good grade a 3/4 (4/4 is top?) 8 cells and good cleavage. I spoke to the clinic and I understand not having a day 5 transfer......waiting game again!
I had my worst round ever, 3 eggs collected, 6 empty follicles, only 1 fertilised normally and this was with donor sperm. I felt totally devastated and gave up hope and didn’t even acknowledge day 5 as thought there was no hope, then they called me in for transfer 🍀 he’s now 2 ❤️❤️
My clinic didn’t support day 3 transfers either and I had given up all hope, but when your little embryo comes along, then you only need that one xx everything crossed for you xx I know what a tough time this is 🍀🍀
