Depressed about egg collection tomorrow

Going in for egg collection tomorrow but I'm really down - we only have 5 decent-sized follicles and the rest haven't responded at all. On our first cycle in Feb we got 12 eggs, but this time we'll be lucky to get 5 - it seems like such a massive drop-off. Previously we've only had sperm issues, but I feel like suddenly my age (41) seems to have kicked in to my ovaries! Hoping and praying that a decent number of them are mature and a decent number fertilise! But when we only got 1 (too early to grade) blastocyst from 12 eggs, with 5 I'm not feeling very hopeful. Thanks for listening, everyone, just needed to vent. Grrrrrr.

Lots of love darling. You only need one. Keep your chin up. I’ll keep you in my prayers. Xxx

Best of luck for tomorrow. I’d be over the moon with 5 follicles 🤩 My little boy came from just 3. Fingers crossed there is a golden egg ✨🥚✨ in there 🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻xx

That's really good to hear! Only 11% of our sperm have viable DNA so statistically we need way more eggs than if all the sperm were ok - but it's really encouraging to hear about success from lower numbers of eggs anyway xx

Defo quality over quantity. We have similar issues on the sperm side, and although we collected 22 eggs last time round still only 1 made it to day 5. But guess what - it was a 4AB...so golden eggs really do exist 🤞❤

Good luck tomorrow Lcharlton. No real advice but we read miracle stories here everyday so i hope its your turn! Focus on your own health lovely, you come first, and lets stay positive! 😘 xxx

Ah bless you, try not to worry yourself. Totally understand the worries over numbers (I did the same thing), but it's definitely quality over quantity. Hoping tomorrow goes well 🤞 xx

Sometimes the cycle that we think will be the worse it is proving actually to be the best. Don't lose your hopes it is too early. Miracle can happen don't forget. Good luck my love and 🤞 for tomorrow ❤️🤗

Fingers crossed

Keep soldiering on, I had my worst number this time round but much better fertilisation rates so maybe it’s quantity rather than quality? Will be thinking of you, lots of luck xx

Best of luck tomorrow lovely. You never know maybe these will be better quality! Fingers crossed. Will you be doing ICSI? Just remember it only takes one! Your lucky egg could be retrieved tomorrow! Big hugs Xx

Thank you!! We've been advised to do IMSI this time instead of ICSI as our fertilisation rate with ICSI was under 40%. Hoping it helps!! Xx

Hang in there mama. I had only 3 mature follicles, 3 eggs collected and only one fertilised. Ended up with a two day fresh transfer at 42 years of age and I’m now holding my DS in my arms breast feeding. It only takes one. All the best for tomorrow 💕

On my first cycle I had 12 eggs 8 fertilised and none made it to blastocyst. This time I had 6 eggs 3 fertilised and one made it to blastocyst. It really isn’t always about the quantity it’s the quality. Don’t worry yourself. This could be the cycle and I really have everything crossed xxx

Thanks so much for all the support everyone! In the end we've actually collected 8, so clearly some of the small ones they were saying weren't going to respond sprang into action in the last 48 hours. Really wishing they'd agreed to let me stim for a couple more days now!! I had a strong hunch the others might pick up if we kept going, but the nurse at my last scan said it'd be pointless.

I had a similar number of follicules at 44. Collected 4 eggs. 1 made it to 3CC blastocyst, 1 to ungradeable blastocyst and one to compacted morula. My aim had been to freeze and transfer later but the clinic said they weren't good enough to freeze and to transfer all. After the transfer I wished I had frozen the 3CC and was upset about it for a couple of days. Am now 20wks pregnant after transferring all, so glad I disn't freeze. Be positive, it just takes 1 good one!
