Hi all,
Just wondering where ppl are with this? My clinics still saying no but I’m in two minds as have them already and really feel they could make the difference...

I think if you already have them then take them, especially if you feel like they would make a difference.
I had a few left from previous cycle and I did Take what I had leftover as Due to covid clinic wouldn’t Give me anymore - I would normally have taken 2x 5mg tablets per day I think but I decided to take 1x5mg tablet as wanted enough to see me through at least the 5 days before transfer and a few days after.
Whether it made a difference or not I don’t know but I’m pregnant with twins albeit had 3 failed transfers previously also whilst taking steroids
I was in a similar position - clinic refused to prescribe them due to Covid . I had some left over from a previous pregnancy (which was successful) . If I took 10mg rather than 20mg I would have had enough for 13 weeks. I spoke to a friend who also is a nurse and asked her advice. Her thoughts were it should be ok but just be extremely carefully especially at work due to Covid . She however did say to me to take into consideration if I was unfortunately enough to catch Covid and become extremely unwell due to a suppressed immune system and potentially end up in ITU how that would impact on my son and the potential complications to my unborn baby. I am a bit of a worrier so I decided not to take them . I suspect I probably will miscarry again - I truly believe that they made a difference in my last successful pregnancy. I was given then due to high thyroid antibodies. My NK cell level was normal.
I have a scan at 8 weeks next week .
As much as I want to have another baby I felt I couldn’t potentially take the chance of my son not having his mummy around .
It’s such a tough decision to make xxx
Hi landmark. Do you know how high your thyroid tpo was ? I tested positive so highly likely am Hashimoto’s but consultant not inclined to change protocol (after two transfers resulting in miscarriage) xx
Sorry I don’t . It was tested a few years ago after my 2nd miscarriage. They have refused to retest . All I know it was high . Was started on thyroxine
Thank you! This is really helpful. I’m working from home and going to treat this time like lockdown with minimal interaction with anyone.
I can see where you are coming from though. It’s different when you have a baby. I’d be the same!
Lots of luck with your scan! 🧡
Thank you. I think knowing my son can bring a whole range of bug/viruses home from nursery made me over cautious. I could have taken time off work ( I am a nurse in HDU) during the 12 weeks taking steroids to reduce my chance of being in contact with someone with Covid but I wasn’t willing to self isolate from my son. I know a few of my colleagues during Covid moved out of for a number of weeks but I couldn’t have been away from my son for that long .
Hope all goes well for you xx
It’s worth remembering with Steroids (prednisolone) that you shouldn’t stop cold turkey, you have to wean yourself off of them. For example if you’re taking 20mg you need to then reduce to 10mg for a week, then 5mg for a week, before you stop. You can get quite nasty withdrawal symptoms otherwise - Severe fatigue, Weakness, Body aches, Joint pain, Nausea, Loss of appetite, Lightheadedness.
Ive replied on another thread Sarah! Good luck.xx
I’m having a transfer in Nov and was prescribed them and I’m in the dumpster that is the US! 😂 Hadn’t even thought about covid and now I’m worried! Ugghh. I want to take it Though because I’ve had 2 failed transfers with perfect PGS tester embryos . I’m praying the steroids help.
When do you girls start taking it? Is it during stims or after transfer? I read a study stating 5mg doubled the pregnancy rates in women with thyroid issues !!
And
Just spoke to my sister who takes 30 mg prednisolone for her lung disease (she lives in west europe) and asked if her doctors warned her for covid and she said nothing was mentioned? Thats a high dose! Or is nhs over cautious.
I’m starting mine 5 days before transfer.
I don’t think it’s so much the nhs mines my private clinic. Think it’s HEFA rules.
I’ve started taking prednisone 6 days before transfer and he wants me to be on them until 7 weeks, then start to wean off. I’m on 4x4 per day so 16mg. I really believe that it helped me
Just wondering, as i think they are interchanged sometimes, but do you girls get prednisone or prednisolone prescribed xx
good question! I’m actually on Medrol, which I always called prednisone but having just googled it now, it turns out that it’s methylprednisone, a stronger form of prednisone. So I’m on 16mg which is equivalent to 20mg of prednisone. So I guess a reasonably high dosage. I did do a lot of googling because I was worried about being on steroids initially, and it seems to be a common dose in clinics in the States and there are lots of success stories which is so encouraging
