Hydrosalpinx/previous surgery/week away from frozen transfer

Hi,

We are currently going through a Frozen embryo transfer cycle, and I am a week away from the transfer. On my scan today they discovered a hydrosalpinx on the ultrasound (which I know is bad when they can see it on there :(. ) I have had previous surgery for stage 4 endo and my nurse at the IVF clinic advised us to go ahead with the transfer. I am all over the place and I don’t know what to do. I am only 29 but I had cancer and so IVF is probably my only hope anyway but We’re so close now, having had our first transfer cancelled because of covid. Has anyone been in the same situation and been advised to carry on? We only have 10 frozen embryos which is a good amount but when this is your only hope, I don’t know if the risk of ‘having a go’ with 1 is worth it. Any help/advice would be gratefully received. Thank you

Hello Hun. I hope you are well. I have Stage 4 Endometriosis and was advised to get my Hydrosalpinx sorted before having IVF as it can have a negative impact on implantation. I understand it must be tempting to go ahead with the frozen embryo transfer but I probably wouldn't risk maybe wasting a precious embryo. That was the opinion of my clinic but maybe others on here got different opinions. Wishing you all the best for the future. 💖💖xx

Sorry to hear you also suffer! Had you had surgery before to deal with the endo? Have you had the surgery now for the hydrosalpinx? Thank you xx

I had 3 previous surgeries for my Endometriosis before our first IVF cycle ... All open surgery as I had massive complications with Laparoscopic surgery. I was a month off 42 when my miracle baby boy arrived. You can do this Hun! 💖💖xx

Oh fab so pleased for you! Just awful that we have to go through all this to get there, but so worth it in the end xxx

Don’t do it! My clinic made me do exact same thing - I also have endo. It never worked and I lost my best embryo, had to have them both out before my next transfer and it failed again. 🙈 hoping for some more luck next time xxx

Oh gosh, I’m so sorry to hear that. Had you already had surgery for your endo? Or was this how they found it? Wishing you all the luck in the world! Xxx

Yeah already had surgery for endo the year prior. They noticed hydro on ultrasound but still pushed me for transfer. Once it failed they wouldn’t do another until they was out xx

Yeah because I feel like the clinic was trying to say because you’ve had surgery it’s not the best to have the hydro sorted but that doesn’t really make sense to me, if it needs sorting it needs sorting. I haven’t slept for trying to do research and success stories without treatment are slim :( I feel like maybe I need to push back? I’ve got a million questions written down for the clinic, going to ring them later. The clinic also said it will probably be a 6 month wait for the surgery :(, how long was your recovery? Thank you so much for replying. This just feels like another gut punch xx

The fluid is toxic to embryos so id definitely push for them to remove them before transferring any embryos! Recovery was better than when I had endo excised. It really is gutting but don’t waste your previous embryos it will be worth it at the end xxx

Yeah you’re right, we’ve waited 5 years, we can wait another 6 months to get going again, well however long really I guess. Were there more risks having them removed after previously having surgery for the endo? Xxx

Hey sorry to pester you again, do you know what size your hydrosalpinx was? Was yours both sides or one? I’ve just spoken to the clinic and mine is transient, one side, and 1cmx1.5cm which she said is small as they are normally 5cm?

Although it’s news I guess you’d want to hear it’s also made the decision all the more difficult. They’re arranging for the consultant to ring me next week before we make any final decisions xxx

Hey, no problem! I don’t actually know which size mine were, they never said. Just that they need to come out! X
