Question about doubling hcg

so, I stopped trying for a while with no luck. My periods are usually very regular (my last one being July 20). I missed my period completely in August with several negative HPTs after my expected period. I finally got a blood test on Thursday, Sept 3 and my hcg level was 5. I just assumed that was a normal number for a non-pregnant woman but they wanted me to come back for more bloodwork the beginning of this week. I went back yesterday because Monday was a holiday and they called back today and said my HCG was 40! They want me to come back in a few days to recheck. That seems extremely low. Is from 5-40 in 5 days doubling??

hCG in early stages is meant to double every 48 to 72 hours so things could be going the right way....I would hope your GP is going to repeat again?! Good luck.xx

Yes that’s the doubling, it’s supposed to double every two days so sounds like that’s about right for 5 days. I had a very similar situation a few years ago with strange period behaviour and I turned out to be pregnant without having realised it. That was after nothing happening for a long time too. Our bodies are complicated! Congratulations and good luck! x
