Hi all,

Anyone advised to start aspirin 150mg daily from 12 weeks of pregnancy ? If so, how have you got on with the aspirin and has it caused any problems ?

I’ve been advised by my Midwife and Gyne consultant that I have risk of pre-clampsia due to first pregnancy and assisted conception with IVF and ICSI. I concerned about starting aspirin as I had a very heavy vaginal bleed around 7 weeks which terrified me and I was told it was a possible threatened miscarriage. Since then I’ve had two scans and both showed a healthy heartbeat and I have my 12 week scan at 13 weeks tmrw. I’m so anxious.

I’d be grateful to hear from you.

Thanks

Hey hun, yep I'm on low dose aspirin 😊 I take 100mg daily and the only reason I was told to take it is because of my age (I'm 40) and that it will do no harm to baby. They said it helps with blood flow to placenta because as we age our blood thickens. This is also a natural pregnancy my IVF pregnancy I sadly miscarried at 11 weeks. I've had no bleeding or even a spot of blood this whole pregnancy and I'll be 28 weeks tomorrow. So try not to worry, it was my midwife too who suggested i take it and I trust they know what they are doing 😊 xxx

Hi Niki,

Thank you for replying. That’s reassuring to know that all has been well with your pregnancy:). I hopefully will start the Aspirin tmrw after my dating scan. Any reason why you take 100mg and not 150? I am 29 years old and it’s my first successful ivf cycle.

I wish you all the best in your pregnancy 😃

Hi PA86,

Is the only reasons that it’s your first pregnancy and IVF/ICSI?

I’m also the same and don’t have to take it aspirin so seems odd!x

Yes that is the only reason. Which is not sitting well with me but I’ve spoken to my consultant last week and she is very keen for me to start ASAP after 12 weeks.

I am only worried purely about bleeding concerns. I fear bleeding upon starting aspirin.

I do think it’s unusual if it’s just because you’ve had IVF. I’m currently 36 weeks pregnant from ICSI and haven’t had to take it 🤷🏼‍♀️

Some hospital/care areas treat IVF differently. Where I am, they are no different to a normal pregnancy Xx

I didn’t have to and I have had ivf ICSI but my friend that had the same and was 40 she had too. So maybe your age?

Congratulations on your pregnancy.

I am 12 weeks on Friday xxx

Congratulations to you too! Have you had your dating scan yet ?

I’m 29 years of age . I suppose I best take it but just found the dose too high and I don’t have any other risks.

I can understand why you will feel worried.

Maybe you could request a medical explanation and their opinions on the risks? Might help take away some of the worry. You have been through so much already you need to feel relaxed.

I have my dating scan on friday. I had one at 9 weeks and saw little one 😊. I don’t have symptoms now so hoping all is okay. I can’t wait to stop the cyclogest (pessaries) lol. Xxx

Don’t worry I’ve barely had any symptoms and I’m just past 13 weeks. Got my scan tmrw so hopefully all should be fine(fingers crossed 🤞🏼)

I did speak to my consultant and she kind of just said yes you need to start taking them and that was it!

I stopped my cyclogest at 10 weeks

Yes my midwife told me today I’ll need to take 150mg of aspirin at night from 12 till I have the baby . This is the first time I have been advised to take it despite having 2 full term pregnancies. Congratulations on your pregnancy xxx

I think it’s some new guidelines. I will take it just curious to know about different experiences. Congratulations to you too 😃. I do hope all is going well with you and baby.

Thank you for messaging back. It’s reassuring to know.
