Had a appointment with dr about ivf and iui when I asked her about clomid she was reluctant to prescribe and said we will do another ultrasound and blood tests before prescribing me as when they did my last ultrasound there were two folicals growing
Is this normal to not be prescribed clomid because of this? It felt like she was pushing me into ivf and iui when I want to find out exactly what is wrong before jumping in?
You can ask for a referral to a fertility specialist nurse who might be more informed about your options. The GP might have wanted to get the ball rolling with regards to ivf as the waiting lists are so long... once you are on the list you can try clomid in the meantime? Honestly I wish I'd pushed for other help myself, but I just listened to the doctor who told me to 'keep trying' and wait for the ivf.
With Clomid you have a higher probability of multiples anyways, so two follicles is a bit of a warning sign that there could be more. I guess they want to scan and do the blood work to make sure you would not produce more than two follicles. I have PCOS which means I would have to be very closely monitored for not making too many follicles and I even had two IUIs cancelled because I made 6 or 7 in one go each. I guess a cycle just on Clomid is much more difficult to control than IVF or even IUIs because you are not scanned every other day.
