Hello, me again! Following my initial blood tests, I went back for a glucose fasting test and they say it's too high @ 7.0 (they want it 6.0). My family all have late onset type 2 diabetes and I've been tested again and again (without a conclusive diagnosis as somehow I always managed to stay under the limit after more tests). I though I kept control of it but now I want to try to have a baby, it's made it much more serious. BMI is 26 so I could definitely do with losing some weight but I'm wondering if anyone else beat their results and got the levels down and how and how quick? Is that 1.0 difference a case of 2lbs or the full 8 I have to lose to get to my ideal weight? I've started to google diabetic cook books and realising I will have to cut out the cakes and dried fruit for a while!

Glucose level too high
Hi, I'm sorry you're going through this. My husband has diabetes type 1. What works best for him is exercise to keep his glucose on check, especially aerobics like running, cycling, or even walking. He also has a diet high in protein (his kidneys are ok) which also helps in having a better control. Weight reduction always helps but for what you said is not a big problem for you. However, losing those extra pounds is always a hard task.
I would suggest to get your HbA1c measured as if it will comfirm if you have diabetes or not.
Regarding the cakes: you don't have to give them up completely but maybe moderation is the key. My husband makes extra exercise when he knows we are having a bigger meal or something with too much sugar.
Thank you for the reply. I had been doing really with running until recently - I must keep it up! There doesn't seem to be much discussion on the subject on this site really - makes me wonder if it's that common or that much of a worry. I am not looking to start IVF until November so hopefully I can get it down for then.
I agree with you that this topic hasn't been discussed much here. For the age group, I don't think is that frequent. Good that you're running. Thinking beyond IVF, if it works for you, pregnancy hormones may put you at risk of gestational diabetes. I do believe that if you get there with a good weight and doing some exercise with help you massively. However, IVF is a rough journey, so, do whatever you can, don't pressure yourself. From what you said, diabetes runs in your family and there is a limit on what we can do. There are treatments for it, it will require more checks ups but it's doable. All the best!
