What are your thoughts about bed rest during 2WW

Hi everyone!

I had my transfer yesterday and had today off today. I am debating with myself whether to return to work on Monday (bearing in mind it can be busy and sometimes carry heavy items) or whether to stay at home. I know the title says bed rest but more lying on the sofa watching Netflix is my plan for next week.

I keep seeing on the internet that bed rest is not recommended due to clot formation risk etc.

What does everyone think? Do I go back to work, or do I take a week off to chill out?

Thank you x

I came back to work after mine. I'm a believer in nature, if it is suppose to stick it will. Also, moving around makes your blood flow better which should be benefitial for your body. Sitting at home and thinking won't do any good.

That was my reasoning anyway.

Good luck x

Thanks for your reply 🙂 I guess I'm getting more and more anxious about it and worried I'll pull something 😂

It's my 6th go and I'm not getting any younger. Still no kids. I'll see how I am on Sunday. 🙂

It also depend on what your job is. You don't want to be even more stressed than you are. I can imagine how you feel. But for me work i an escape and keeps me in my right mind. Otherwise I overthink and get very negative. If you feel like you will benefit from staying at home then don't think about it twice!

Thanks Hun 😘 I know exactly what you mean though.... I would sit and stew if I was at home. If I had a job where I could sit down I probably wouldn't mind too much as you can go for walks at lunch time. I'm always on my feet and at the moment, I'm walking like John Wayne 😂 somebody's bound to notice. I'll see how I am Sunday. Thank you for your advice.

Do what feels right for you.

First time i went back to work 2 days after transfer. The cycle was unsuccessful but I dont solely think that was the reason.

Second time i took the two weeks off, kept warm & cosy, went for nice walks, went shopping, baked. Tried to fill my time with nice things.

Dont get me wrong i was a nervous wreck the whole time.

I dont think there’s a right or wrong answer, do what feels right for you xx

Thank you for that. I might see how I am on Sunday but I am leaning towards a week off doing bits n bobs. I do need some time to myself and do lots of things to fill my time as I have been doing A LOT of overtime since covid kicked off. I'm sure the hubby won't mind me baking a few things 🤭

Thank you

The 2ww is horrendous whatever you do. I agree if the conditions are right in there and embryo is ok it will work, if they’re not it won’t... not helpful I know, good luck and hugs xxxx

I carried on working through my 2ww, became pregnant but sadly miscarried at 7 weeks. I wondered at the time if lifting the kids and the sky high stress levels that comes with IVF contributed, who knows, probably not? When I was at home I was climbing the walls. So a no win situation really.

I finally have success after many years of miscarriages and horrendous medications and failed IVF. Putting this out there in case it helps anyone with the same make up as me.

I gave up stressful job. Took baby aspirin from ovulation. Started taking a good quality vitamin (Impryl- methylated B12 and folic acid.) I’m vegetarian so started to make sure I was eating bowls full of folate rich greens. Cheap as chips. Have really rested this time round. Food shopping has been the most strenuous thing I’ve done.

Who knows why this has worked. If someone had told me to try this at the beginning of my journey I would have rolled my eyes and said its more complicated than that.. The above are definitely things I took for granted. Vitamin levels, veg and 37p aspirin? (Obviously check with doctor about aspirin as may not be recommended for everyone.) I thought IVF would be the answer for me, but it wasn’t. But of course it depends on the initial problems. Mine was unexplained, then said I had very low egg count, but collected loads of eggs. Then said I had killer cells, took steroids, still miscarried. I’ve said before that I am aware the fertility is an imperfect science and this is just one story.

Sorry if I’ve gone off on a tangent, I just feel these simpler things aren’t really discussed with us before we spend thousands of pounds on IVF. My consultant is held in high regard and lovely, but looking back we definitely missed some basics. Robert Winston. Org is a really helpful forum that helped me have a different view on things.

Xx

My clinic said that there is no evidence to suggest that testing at home assists you. What they have said is to continue doing what you do but just be careful, so if your expected to carry heavy items then maybe you shouldn’t be doing that. My bosses know I’ve had a transfer done, they haven't got a clue about IVF Nor do I really think they are interested or care, so I’ve told them what I’m doing in effect

I took the whole time off just chilled at home I didn’t stay in bed just kept busy but in a relaxed way 🥰

i stay coped up indoors. I had warm foods such as soups, porridges, salmon, salads, vegetables and pineapple cores. i walked around with warm socks for two weeks and did not take warm baths.i watched tons of movies on Netflix. i was fortunate enough to get my bfp with my first try of ivf. This was after 2 natural miscarriages and an etopic pregnancy so i was surprised. I'm currently 22weeks pregnant so I'm hoping we get to the finish line soon. You must do what feels best for you and your body. Sometimes we spend so much time focusing on everything else and the experience becomes more stressful.

I carried on working - was a great distraction. 36 weeks now. But I would let your work know that you need to avoid lifting heavy items - you don’t need to tell them why - or if the insist - bad back ;)

Good Luck!

Hey Lumie, congrats on your transfer. Fingers crossed you get your BFP! I think a lot of this depends on your job and your stress levels. If there is so much heavy lifting that you’d feel worried about it a lot and you can’t avoid it, perhaps see what your clinic says. Also if it’s really stressful and again, you’d rather avoid that right now. If you do take the time, I would probably avoiding total sofa rest and plan in nice walks in nature etc to keep blood flow going and support your mental health. As it’s your 6th go, I can totally understand why you want to throw everything at it! Sending you loads of luck 🍀🌷 xxx
