Egg Freezing - how many is good and gives me a chance in the future? Age 22 AMH 8

Hi. Despite me being deemed to be experiencing premature menopause which is one of the criteria along with cancer treatment of my local CCG, I have been refused egg freezing. I made an IFR but still declined. Therefore I now have to fund and start as many rounds of egg freezing as possible.

What would be a good number of eggs to collect in each round for my age? I have no idea. Obviously I want as many as is humanly possible.

Hi there, I think the average is 10-20 eggs but quality is very important as well as quantity so your clinic should recommend a protocol which they think will offer the best balance.

When I had my first round of IVF my AMH was 9.6 (and I was 35). I did short protocol. I had 8 mature eggs which resulted in 2 embryos.

Good luck with your treatment. xxx

Talk to your clinic aout your amh. I would recommend taking vitamins to increase egg quality forms couple of months before if you can. Good luck with the treatment.

I had 16 eggs first cycle which gave 1 embryo, next cycle gave me 15 eggs and 5 embryos and 2 children so far from those 5 , so it depends on the quality of the eggs that get collected.

Hi, hope you don't me jumping on this. I realise it's an old post. Can I ask, what (if anything) did you do differently on the second cycle that gave you better quality embryos? Also, how long did you wait between first and second egg collection?

Hi. I didn’t do embryos. I’m only 22 and had to freeze my eggs before my AMH plummeted even more. I’m still at university and single!

Thank you. My comment was actually addressed to 'Katbaby' who did do embryos. But can I ask, how many eggs did you get in the end? I'm currently doing egg freezing. I'm single and I've just turned 39. I think it's great that you've taken control at such a young age!

I personally thnk you have a stronger success rate with frozen. If the embryo can survive being frozen then thawing it is pretty good quality for it then to be put back in. Best of luck. Xx

I dont think you should focus on numbers I think you should focus on quality. I’ve had some rounds where I have had 15 eggs and got 2 decent embryos, I’ve had others where I have got 8 and 3 blastocysts. You also need to remember EVERYONE is different. I think so many people on here see people getting 20 eggs and think it’s normal and it’s really not. I was told when an AMH of 9 getting 10 eggs would be a ‘good’ result xx

Hi BarneyandPatsy,

Have you had an ultrasound to count the number of follicles you have? AMH alone isn’t always a definite measure of fertility. Some people have low AMH but a good number of follicles. This would also give you a good indication of roughly how many eggs you might get on a round of stimulation x

No I haven’t! Could it mean then that I may not be infertile? And may not need egg freezing after all?

I had the FSH test which was normal

Your AMH is still on the low side for your age so it’s probably still a good idea to freeze your eggs if you’re able to do so but it’s odd that haven’t done a follicle count to check what you have at the moment. I would definitely push for that, it’s called an AFC. They basically just count the number of follicles they can see on a given month on each of your ovaries which should give you a much better idea of how successful any egg collections you do would be xx

Hi, I will suggest you boost your egg quality for about 3 months with supplements before going in for egg collection. Try taking supplements like Ubiquinol, vit D, folate, omega 3 and prenatals. Your AMH is low for your age and will suggest you go ahead with the egg freezing. Good luck. x

It’s very good for you to do it. You’ll probably need so the younger the better.

Check this calculator. Best
