I did search for this on here before I posted but didn’t find quite what I was after. I was just interested to hear of people’s experience with DHEA please. I’m back taking my bucket load of supplements which I’m happy with and the only one I haven’t added as yet that I’m thinking about is DHEA. There has been a couple of comments about side effects so I’m just interested to hear about that too.
Any thoughts etc, as always, are much appreciated.
Thank you 🙏
Xx

I took the 75mg per day when I did my own egg cycles and I truly believe it helped. Went from a cycle with nothing to transfer (not sure if the hospital cocked my meds up) to 2 early blastocysts on cycle 2 and a 2BB on my third cycle. Not great but an improvement for sure. I had slightly greasier hair, maybe a few more little spots here and there along with more magnified ovulation but that's it really!! Hope you are doing as well as you can be at the moment. Lots of love.xxx
Hi lovely, I took DHEA, 75mg, and I really felt it helped. My cycles were better once I started DHEA although hard to prove of course. But I felt it was really worth while. Only side effect I noticed was greasy hair. Definitely no harm in trying. I had a post on here a while back which had helpful replies about DHEA. Thinking of you. Lots of love xx
i took it (75 mg/day, micronised) for 3 months (at the age of 43) before my cycle which gave me my second child... there was a definite difference in quality with that cycle compared with my first cycle (both conducted at the age of 43) -for the first one i only had around a 50% fertilisation rate, and one average blastocyst at the end of it, and the second one i had a 90% fertilisation rate with 2 top quality blastocysts.. I also did early egg retrieval (which is beneficial for older women), so that also might have helped..
Wow that’s an amazing difference!! Thanks a lot for letting me know. We are due to have an egg collection when our clinic is open to do so so I’m keen to start taking it in preparation! So pleased you had a success too xx
Yes I’ve read that too. I don’t have PCOS though but thank you for the thought xx
I lovely, sorry to be the voice of doom but I have had a disaster on it! I don't have PCOS or any other symptoms but I had to give up on it as had such terrible side effects, my hair fell out in clumps and I had the worst insomnia.. and got very hairy everywhere else! As soon as I stopped taking it everything reverted to normal. Absolutely gutted as it was kind of my last hope to improve egg quality. Definitely worth a try but I just wanted to flag it can have side effects. Masses of luck xx
Thanks a lot for the message. This is what I was worried about. I’m def prone to side effects (with all drugs and supplements) which is a worry. I’ve just done a home DHEA test this morning so I’ll see what the results of that are. Thanks for sharing your experience. You aren’t the voice of doom at all. That’s exactly why I ask for people’s experience to get a varied view. Xx
I was recommended by my NHS ivf consultant to take 75mg of DHEA daily. 25mg in the morning and 50mg at night. He told me this was to help with the side effects. I had no side effects whatsoever. However my ivf cycles were worse on my 2nd and 3rd cycles when I took the DHEA xx
I know, and I was also on max stims so with both these together, I don't think it made for a good combination. My first cycle with minimal supplements was by far my best cycle. I think I'm more suited to a mild stimulation cycle and less is more 🙂
Our clinic doctor said not to use DHEA if trying to get pregnant naturally. He said for IVF they say to stop it on day of egg collection so the extra progesterone doesn't affect any developing embryo. He also said the extra progesterone in females on DHEA can raise the levels in their partners during intercourse while trying naturally which can then affect sperm. He said if you can tell the day of ovulation, we could try it but stop at ovulation until we know if are or are not pregnant. Sounds complicated but it put me off trying it. I hope that helps. X
