First NHS infertility appointment

Hi ladies,

I am still waiting for my first infertility NHS appointment.

Given my age I went private and did 2 cycles of IVF. Only managed 1 embryo which was frozen, ie no transfer so far.

I was wondering what happens at that first appointment. Whether it can be helpful for me although I am already doing IVF?

Probably not! Not sure your age but I am 41 (nearly 42). My GP referred me to the local hospital after 2 miscarriages and basically I got told due to my age forget about getting pregnant naturally and I have been referred to a fertility Centre for IVF. They wouldn’t even consider looking into why I can conceive but not continue a pregnancy.

I got the impression that the NHS didn’t want to waste their time or mine and just referred me on!

Thanks. I am even older so I am not eligible for NHS IVF funding. I hope they will not send me home with nothing. Did they not due any tests?

Hi. Just my AMH which is 11.7, so actually goodish for my age!

They were talking about scans but then Covid hit and my scan was cancelled and the fertility clinic have already been in touch so have been discharged from the NHS.

Good luck hopefully they may be able to help you more!

My experience is similar too Ketkoot, I’m also over 40 and at that time had one mmc from a natural pregnancy and was referred by our GP.

I also got told that due to age and amh that my chances of getting pregnant naturally or ivf with my own eggs was slim.

At the first consult they took a little background, how long we had been ttc, do we smoke, drink, medical history, blood tests for both myself and husband and I had an scan to check my ovaries.

I did have one cycle on the nhs, I did feel like Ketkoot that they felt I was wasting their time and money.

The treatment they offer is kind of ‘one fits all’ they don’t have the funds and are governed by strict criteria they have to follow, the treatment isn’t individualised.

You could go to the appointment to see what they say/ offer you, they may off 1 cycle. Wishing you good luck xx
