I wish I had his address to send him a congratulation postcard for his baby boy reminding him about the thousands of women denied a child until the government changed his stance...

If anyone knows how to reach him, I suggest we all send him emails/twits/etc

He has a twitter account @BorisJohnson.

A petition may also help, but it is probably more beneficial to be reaching out to the chief medical officer and the health minister. As they will have greater pull in advising the government. This was the focus of the IVF ladies and fertility clinics in Adelaide and Australia.

Who is the chief medical officer please? I an going to write to him

Professor Chris Whitty is the CMO for England and the United Kingdom. He is on a lot of the governments daily briefings.

Scotland - Dr Gregor Smith

Wales - Dr Frank Atherton

Northern Ireland - Dr Michael McBride

Health Secretary Matt Hancock is also running a a lot of the daily briefings. I’m not sure how his role differs from The Minister of State (Minister for Health) in the UK, Edward Argar MP.

National Medical Director NHS England is Dr Stephen Powis (he is also regularly on the governments daily briefings.

Dr Stephen Powis, Professor Chris Whitty and Matt Hancock are the three you see most often on the daily briefings. I believe writing to them as well as your local MPs would have the greatest potential impact in raising the issue.

Do you have their emails? For info I already wrote to my MP. I encourage others to do the same. None of these these people be messaged on twitter

Good news - Matt Hancock has announced fertility treatments are restarting.

Great news. But I will wait to hear confirmation that egg collection can restart before celebrating. Did you see anything on this?

Very good idea.

I’m currently living in a country where my prime minister has seven kids and since taking away our chances has given birth.. how lovely.

I’m just so frustrated and I’ve really been keeping calm but this new today has really got to me.

As spread of the virus slows and is more controlled and supplies of PPE are secured for the future I think you will see things start to open up. They already announced certain NHS services opening up, it will just take a little time for these things to fully be in place and services to gradually resume but that would be well before social distancing etc open up. IVF has just restarted in Australia this week. But operational Hysteroscopies for example are still banned but under review in 2 weeks time. Have faith. Europe was hit before UK so IVF would have stopped there before it did in the UK so they will open up before the UK, but it will happen. And I think it won’t be more than a couple of months maximum then most medical things will be full steam ahead. Things like going out to restaurants and the pub or bigger gatherings like cinemas, sporting events with fans etc is what won’t re-open for quite a while.

Unfortunately I have severely diminished ovarian reserve so in a few months time it will be too late for me.

Hi, I agree, but is it not down to the HFEA / BFS ? I fear the HFEA will be slow, due to this notion of possible harm during pregnancy ( which seems only to apply to IVF not natural conception....) Each clinic will no doubt start at different times depending on how they organize their re openings. My clinic said once reopened it would be increasing the amount of people it could see to deal with the cancellations and back log, yet social distancing will mean minimal people in the building at any one time so I am not sure how this will work ? Another factor is clinic staff redeployed to the NHS / front line .

I was coping but the last few days I just feel overwhelmed with fears and doubt about petty much everything tbh ! I guess i would like to know what the clinics planning / strategy will be . Also i was having donor treatment so that whole process has to start again. I think that this community needs clear information ASAP xx

Hi, is it not down to HFEA? X

Lilly12255 profile image
Lilly12255 in reply toColes2020

No, HFEA takes decisions based on BSF guidance and distancing measures decided by the government. So we need to lobby politicians (by writing emails to our MP) and BSF (via our clinic)

Poor BJ lol congratulations to him. It would be more from medical directors. Good luck we all want to see them back open

I’m 21, single with very low ovarian reserve. I feel like the rug has been pulled from under my feet. I was planning to start egg freezing before lockdown. Every month that now passes I’m more and more despondent. I’ve written to my MP but I’m not sure like most of my friends who say, you never know what might happen in the future/it’ll be alright, that the MP will quite understand how time critical this is even to give me a tiny % chance of a baby in the future.

Try to call your MP team too to highlight that our chances are running out. I did this and it helped make them understand. The more MP understand, the better our chances are. If you know any journalist, an article on us would help. I have tried to contact newspapers on our case. Xx

They’re talking about fertility treatment on the daily briefing!!

FutureBabyMaybe profile image

I watched the start of the briefing and Matt Hancock has said they are restoring fertility treatment on the NHS now, didn’t provide many more details than that. But good news.

Yes good news. Clinics can Apply from 11th May , my clinic advised the HFEA hope to turn around the applications from clinics in 5 days, though I would doubt it tbh because of the volume . I asked if they will be planning/ contacting patients about cycles etc so that (cancelled ) patients can start asap and they said over next couple of weeks patients will be contacted. I was having donor treatment so that is largely out of my control I guess, x
