Introduction to us.

I am 29 and my husband is 32, we have been together for 8 1/2 years and married for 1.

We have been trying to conceive for about 7 years but due to an ectopic pregnancy In a previous relationship I believe my tubes are damaged.

We are currently having pre investigations for NHS IVF and the initial results show low spent count and low sperm motility, he’s due to provide another sample in a couple of weeks. My tests show I’m ovulating and fertile but as previously said I believe I have damaged Fallopian tubes.

I hope we get accepted for the NHS IVF but if not then we will have to go private, it’s a big cost but we want to be parents and I want nothing more than to make him a father.

I joined this forum as I don’t have any family and have no one to talk to about this journey, I am close to my mother in law but my husband has asked that we don’t tell them yet.

Is there anyone here in Dudley, West Midlands or surrounding that can shed some light on the waiting times and process?

Hi hun. I’m not too far from Dudley. Been TTC for 9months with no luck so far, GP said they would refer us once we’ve been trying for 12 months. If you find out any more about times / processes etc of local fertility services let me know xx

in reply toSunshine92

Hiya, I will do. Hopefully when I see the Dr in two weeks I’ll have some information x

Make sure they refer you for a hysterosalpincogram where they test your tubes by pushing dye through. Hopefully one will have survived your ectopic pregnancy at least. In the meantime, my fertility clinic recommends cyclogest for improving sperm quality, it’s an expensive supplement you buy online but cheaper than private ivf so might be worth a try.

Thanks for the advice :-)

Welcome to the forum! Please try and have your hubby go with you to this one. I made the mistake of going on my own thinking "I'll be fine!!...." It is quite uncomfortable to say the least but can shed so much light on the state of affairs in that region. They were also 3/4 of an hour late in taking me in - my anxiety was through the roof!!!! After that appointment, I've never been on my own to appts -I keep him organised with what we're doing and when and he keep me calm!!!!

in reply toSnowy76

I think he’ll insist on coming with me luckily! What’s uncomfortable about it?

Hi Sunshine, I had my GP visit yesterday and he’s referred me to a gynaecologist at The West Midlands Hospital in Halesowen, I have an appointment this month and apparently 9 out of 10 couples start treatment in 16 weeks. I’ll know more when I see the gyno so I will update you then x

Thank for so much for letting me know! I have had surgery on my cervix there before under Mr Morsi. Reassuring that you have been referred so quickly. Wishing you the best of luck lovely xx

in reply toSunshine92

Thank you! It was a complete shock when my DR said he was referring us because I was expecting to be put on a long waiting list. I’m still doubtful as it seems too quick and easy, I’m waiting for them to change their mind or something x

Welcome - there are amazingly kind people on here with great tips and advice.

Best of Luck with your journey!

Xxx

I'm in Worcester and had my NHS ivf treatment in Birmingham. Firstly the gp referred us to the gynaecologist at our local hospital who did the initial blood tests and sperm test and referred me for the hsg test (dye to check your uterus and tubes). They looked at the results (low ovarian reserve for me, and low motility for DH) and referred us to Birmingham for ivf treatment. I think it was around 8 months from gp referral to get the referral to the fertility clinic, then it all happened quickly after that. Not sure if it is the same process elsewhere x

Hi Sarah,

8 months doesn’t seem bad, I was thinking it would be longer.

Thank you for responding x

If you ask about waiting times at your next appointment, they might be able to tell you approx times x

I will thank you x

I am not in your area, but welcome and good luck. I went for my IVF in Copenhagen as I could not afford the costs of private IVF in Uk and I had great time. I had IVF with sperm donor and process was very smooth. I did preparation and scans here in the Channel Islands and went there for pick up and ET. So I had to add some travelling costs but was still cheaper than in Uk.

Hi Caeli, welcome to the forum! The folk on here are so helpful & supportive so you’ve come to the right place. Everyone’s journey is so unique but I can share mine. I’m not in Birmingham but very close by. I went to GP end of Oct, had 1st appointment at fertility clinic in Jan. And started my IVF/ICSI journey 18 days ago so 5 months from the initial appointment. Not sure if this is normal speed or not but I definitely needed that time to get my head around everything, it’s a lot to take in. Good luck with everything Xx

in reply tojengi

Thanks for your response, it seems to vary a bit. I’m very anal and need a plan so the unknowing is killing me!

I love plans too (and to-do lists!). It’s difficult to plan on this journey and very early on I resided myself to having to take it bit by bit, appointment by appointment, one day at a time. Good luck Xx

Thank you, you too x

Hi and welcome 😁

We are just starting out on this journey too and will be having treatment in Birmingham. I'm so pleased to have found this forum, lots of lovely supportive people and so much information! x

I’m so nervous about it. I just need a plan of action and I’ll be ok. Got the Dr in two weeks so should hopefully have more information. I just feel like they’re going to reject our application x
