Steroid to fight NK cells and covid

Hi everyone

I have a long history of miscarriage. I was supposed to undergo an iui cycle before the covid shutdown.

This morning I found out I am pregnant naturally. I rang my clinic emergency line for advice on taking my support meds prescription. The nurse said she cannot help me until after Easter weekend as she does not have access to my chart. She mentioned that there is new reluctance to prescribing steroids for NK cells at the minute as they as immunosuppressants which would make it easier to contract covid and fight it off.

Has anyone any further info on this? Has anyone not been prescribed steroids for this reason?

Would appreciate some advice. Am tempted to take the steroid and if told to stop on Tuesday I will stop.

Hi firstly congratulations. I have hashimotos disease so was trying to discuss before my last fet 8 days ago the possibility of steroids for this & my RE wouldn’t even discuss. He said given the current situation with COVID absolutely no chance he would suppress my immune system. Have you had NK cells confirmed? How do you have the steroids already? Have they been previously prescribed? If you do decide to take them (I’m not suggesting you do or don’t as honestly don’t know the answer) please be VERY careful & you will have to isolate for the full 12 weeks like the rest of the vulnerable as you will have no immune system xxx

Hi Chowlady14

Yes my NK cells have been confirmed. The steroids were prescribed before the Covid19 kicked off here (I’m in Ireland)

Your answer makes total sense and thank you for taking the time to write it. I really don’t know what to do. I guess I’ll just have to be guided by my clinic when it opens on Tuesday.

I really feel for you huni, it seems so unfair. I wonder if you could ask a different clinic for advise in the mean time? I know my clinic have been doing Facebook q&a and webinars. They seem to reply very quickly. I will PM you their details maybe you could try that? xxx

I’ll wait until Tuesday. Thank you. I feel like I already know the answer. Was so happy yesterday morning with the positive test and now I just feel like it’s destined not to continue

Congratulations on your pregnancy. I would advise not to take the steroids as they will suppress your immune system, with the coronavirus around us it can be very dangerous and even fatal. I have high NK cells and have stopped all the treatments long time ago, I would not want to put my life at risk. Sorry, I don’t mean to be insensitive but this situation can not be sugarcoated ... it is very serious. Only do what medical stuff is telling you to do and don’t take any medication without consulting a doctor.

Thank you. You’re absolutely right. It’s just so unfair. Feel like another miscarriage is definitely on the horizon now
