Last scan before egg retrieval!

Hi ladies,

I finished my injections last night and had my final scan this morning. I had enough follicles to go ahead with the egg retrieval on Monday, but I’m feeling a bit low as there were only 3/4 large enough and my left ovary had done all of the work. This is my first round and naturally I really want it to work. Has anyone found that a low follicle has still resulted in a positive test?

Thanks xx

3-4 is better than zero. Easier said than done but do try to be positive. Sending you both hope and positivity xx

Hi there. I am currently 5 weeks pregnant and was told I only had three follicles on the day of egg collection. Afterwards they told me they’d actually managed to retrieve 5 eggs! Two of those fertilised successfully. So it is possible and it’s definitely quality over quantity. Best of luck to you xxx

Congratulations!! That’s great news and thank you for your reassurance xx

Quality not quantity. Better having 4 good eggs than having 10 not so good eggs. I’m having egg collection on Monday too. I’ve just taken trigger shot. Wish you all the luck in the world for Monday. Here if you want to chat xxxx

Me too! I am now worried that I didn’t get all the liquid out... ah it’s such a rollercoaster of emotions isn’t it!! Good luck for Monday, I feel it’s the last big hurdle for our bodies haha (until Saturday at least) xx

You will be fine with the liquid as long as you pressed the needle all the way down you will be fine there is always some left in the needle but as long as you did the correct amount and pushed plunger all the way to the end. It’s defo a rollercoaster. Il be glad to get egg collection done. I’m starting to get some discomfort now..my endo is flaring up I think. How old are you xxxx

Yes I thought I had pushed it down but then my husband mentioned that there was still some left in the top of the needle. I’m 33 and it’s my first round! I’m also in a bit of discomfort now too since doing the injection tonight more so haha. Just achy! Good luck to you next week 💕😊 xx

Trust me if you managed to reconstitute the other injections you would have correctly injected the ready made prefilled syringe correctly. Sometimes stimulation doses are not very high which results in less eggs, but having too high doses and more eggs makes you feel so rough that at embryo transfer youre throwing up feeling nauseous extra bloated. This has happened to me. I only got 3 blastocysts last week but they were good quality and better than 0. Last time I was 4 yrs younger and had 5, but just for the extra 2 it was still not worth feeling as rough as I was last time. Good luck xxx

Hi there best of luck - i remember being disappointed at my scan as only looked like possibly 4 , as the nurse said to me sometimes we get 20 but doesn’t mean they will go on to fertilize you just need 1 good one ... ,at collection 4 were collected , wasn’t mature enough so they fertilized 3 - and got 2 good embryos. So don’t despair you’re still in with as much chance as anyone , best of luck xx

I had a natural modified cycle, my right ovary did all the work with 4 follicles. 2 grew big enough and we got both eggs and one fertilised normally, i had it put back in on day 2. It doesnt matter how many eggs you get, you only need one good one. Im grateful for my 2, and in my 2ww at the moment xx

Thank you, and best of luck to you 😘 hope it works for you xxx

How did you feel after egg collection? I work for myself so worried about how long I’ll feel sore for! X

Thankyou, and to you too 🤗. Well my first one the sedation didnt work, but second one i had a higher dose and it was great. I had mild cramps for a couple of days afterward and that was it. I did go home to bed afterward on the day to let my body recover just to be on the safe side. You will only need a couple of days off, unless you have embryo transfer on day 2 like me, then iss best to just take that week off and take things easy xx

Ahh my nightmare is that the sedation doesn’t work haha. Glad your second attempt did and that’s good to know it wasn’t too painful. I think I build myself up for the worst case 🙈 x

Lol i did that the first time and thats exactly what happened, they didnt even get the egg because of it! They were partly to blame because i really have no faith in the dr who did it. Second time i had talked about what happened at length, told them i needed to be knocked out and i had my own dr and one of the nurses who was excellent. I was much calmer and it all went really well, i dont remember the procedure at all. If your concerned then just make sure they know you want full sedation and you will be absolutely fine xx
