Free Counselling Session - IVF

Hi, I am having two fresh cycles and then the clinic is taking the best embryos to egg transferral. I called the clinic to ask if allowed then three counselling sessions as doing 'three cycles' and they said only provide one at the end of egg transfer. Is this correct? Trying to look this up on HFEA website as well.

I don’t know the rules about this but know that my nhs clinic gives 5 sessions. I guess it may depend on private vs nhs. Hopefully others will be able to advise you further x

Interesting when I qualified on the NHS they supplied one therapy session after egg transfer but they transferred directly after having a fresh cycle.

Now with private, I am doing two fresh cycles, which will be frozen after each cycle and the best embryos will only then be transferred after a month break of the stimulants. Also only offering one therapy session.

No idea if there's an amount that you're "supposed" to get. I hope so! Our NHS cycle gave us one session, but our private clinic hasn't even brought it up. I'm separately seeing Talking Therapies on the NHS, but they're not a specialist in IVF, that's for sure.

How long did it take for the NHS to approve Talking Therapies for you?

They had a lull in people uptaking it in December so it was only a matter of weeks for me. I don't think it's usually like that, though. The good thing with Talking Therapies is that you can self-refer, so you don't even need to see your GP.

Mmmm I can have three as part of my treatment with my private clinic .

You can ask your own gp for counselling if you need some .

Wow you are lucky with your number of sessions. Will check with GP how long the waiting list is. I havea suspicion since it's NHS it will be long.

It’s two months in NI. You might be able to get the name of a counselling service that’s not too expensive and pay for a couple of sessions .
