Progesterone after BFP

Hi everyone!

My clinic let’s women with a positive pregnancy test stop their vaginal progesterone 6 days after a OTD positive.

Now, I read on here some of you are on it until the 12th week.

What are your thoughts and opinions on this matter.

Should I go behind my clinic and use it for longer or is there no need for it after week 5/6 of pregnancy.

Hey all clinics really really vary! And I guess none are right or wrong. My clinic (CRGH) which has the highest sucess rates in London want progesterone to be above 100 (so I’m on 2 vaginal meds three times a day) one medication rectally three times a day, patches and injections. They believe progesterone levels and misscaridge are linked. HOWEVER, a lot of my friends are at different clinics and on a lot less i I r move at ask bc and also have a successful pregnancy.

One friend was given it but her specialist not because he thought She needed it but as she was so keen on it, that he said even if a placebo, it cx was worth it, to calm her anxiety. Congratulations on your BFP XX

My clinic puts you on it until the 12th week. Progesterone is important in maintaining early pregnancy. However, you may have enough progesterone naturally, but you'd only know that if the clinic tests you. Personally, I would not feel comfortable without it; however I will only be on 2 pessaries a day. Which is quite a lot less than Ttcbabymcg!

Hi, I’ve really been searching this today and it seems all clinics are different and there doesn’t seem to be a right or wrong answer. My clinic have stopped my progesterone after my BFP I spoke to them about this as I was very anxious to stop it, they advised me as I had a fresh ivf cycle my body would be producing progesterone again by this stage they were very reassuring on this and I guess you just have to put your trust in them as they know what they are doing although I would be lying if I said I wasn’t still a little anxious I don’t think that will disappear for a while!!! Congratulations xxx

Hiya

My clinic in Greece told me to continue taking medication until week 9. But I decided to use until 12 weeks and thr clinic just gave in. Trust in what you think is right for your body and fight for it. X

I carried on until 14 weeks. My consultant wanted me to go longer due to the issues we’ve had and to be on the safe side. Talk to your clinic and hopefully they’ll agree for you to be on it longer.

I spoke to my consultant about this as my clinic give it to me until 7 week scan but won’t prescribe it for any natural pregnancy. He claimed there was no proof progesterone maintained a pregnancy, and actually in my case once it stopped my body realising it had MC because I was taking it. As others have said if your natural levels are ok then you should be fine x

Hi Kira, I was on it till 12 weeks post fresh transfer (3 pessaries per day) and even then reluctant to come off it. However, I don't think (or at least they didn't tell me if they did) I had my progesterone levels checked. It might be that they have checked you and think you're ok to come off. There's so many variations on treatment, and theres no right or wrong but I would be inclined to go with the advice of the clinic. Some clinics have a 'one size fits all' package and some are tailor made, mine was the latter which was why we chose it. It might just be worth having a chat with them to put your mind at ease xx

Hello

My clinic wanted me to stop after my BFP (fresh transfer) I just asked them if I could continue as I would worry that my progesterone would be too low to support a pregnancy. The clinic were absolutely fine with it.

I double checked with the clinic that there wouldn’t be any side effects with too much progesterone.

Good luck!

Xxx
