Progesterone after BFP?

OTD today and we finally got our positive! šŸ„° Canā€™t quite believe it - Never thought we would get to this point. Thought it would be a relief but the anxiety just shifts to pregnancy worries now! I have a wee question about progesterone. Did you stay on any once you got your positive? I was a fresh cycle. Iā€™m on lubion and crinone gel currently. Never been pregnant so no history of MC but Iā€™m still worried about stopping it! If you stopped when did you stop? The nurses said thereā€™s a paper published about a link to autism with progesterone supplement once pregnant. I can ask for extra if I want - Iā€™m just struggling to make that decision! X

Aww huge congratulations!

Mine was a frozen cycle but Iā€™ve been told I must stay on all meds especially progesterone until Iā€™m 12 weeks. I think it varies slightly but 12 weeks seems to be the norm xx

I had a fresh cycle but I stayed on them until I was 13 weeks. I was told to come off them at about 10 I think but I weaned myself off as was petrified that my body wouldn't do its thing.

I stayed on progesterone until 12 weeks then just gradually stopped it. I do know people that have been told to stop at 8 weeks though x

I took full dose progesterone till 10 weeks, then 1/2 dose in week 11 then nothing from 12 weeks. Iā€™ve never even heard of issues between progesterone and autism, maybe itā€™s not that common? Some women have to take it for the whole of their pregnancy because of issues. What do your clinic say?

I was on pessaries after my egg collection on a fresh cycle. Got a positive result and was told to stop taking the pessaries that day. I was surprised but just went with the advice....I guess they thought I didn't need the extra progesterone.

Just had my 7 week scan today and all seems fine.

Hi just had my BFP too this week from a FET. I have been told to stay on HRT and those progesterone pessaries until 12 weeks when the baby can then produce all the hormones itself x

I took my pessaries for two more days after BFP when the pack finished and then they told me my own hormones will be strong enough to take over, I had heard so much about keeping going until week 7 or week 12 but all has been fine so far xxxx

Geez thanks nurses for throwing in another stressful decision. I think have your progesterone levels checked and is us low continue with progesterone supplementation. It is high enough maybe ease off but I'd get re tested again to check as progesterone is really important. I've never heard of it being linked to autism :-(

Congratulations!!!!

We also received our BFP 2 weeks ago after our FET and had our 5 week 6 day scan on Tuesday gone. Iā€™m told Iā€™m already 6 weeks pregnant today which is a wonderful shock. Itā€™s our 1st so we are ecstatic.

Yes, we too have been told by our ivf clinic to stay on all 3 meds ,the progesterone pessary, lubion injection and estragel until 12 weeks.

Only blood tests can reveal if you need to stay on it or not. If levels are low, you stay on it. If levels are safe , then you come off it. Most clinics will put you in a one size fits all box and make you take it for 12 weeks.

As I question everything, I asked my clinic. They said they just tell everyone to take it. I made them give me blood tests to see if I actually needed it. Turns out I didnā€™t which made me sad, as I canā€™t stand unnecessarily over medicating.

From my reading, you need it more in a fresh cycle, as a side affect of an egg collection? Just my understanding so far???

This being said.

Hi,

My fresh cycle ended up being an ectopic pregnancy. But if it was a viable pregnancy I would be taking the progesterone supplement until I was 12 weeks.

My clinic normally checks the progesterone level.

Congratulations on you BFP!

Ahhh congratulations! We got our first ever BFP on Tuesday. Itā€™s so exciting but nerve wracking at the same time. Iā€™m unsure on the medication side as I was a natural FET sorry so I havenā€™t been taking anything except for vitamins. Good luck with the rest of your journey šŸ¤žšŸ» xxz

Congratulations on your BFP!

I thought I'd reply as I searched frantically for similar advice when I went through my IVF. After my fresh cycle, my clinic would have told me to stop progesterone on OTD. Unfortunately my HCG wasn't high enough to be a viable pregnancy though. On my frozen round, I had to take oestrogen and progesterone until 10 weeks. When I asked why this advice was different between fresh and frozen, the nurse explained that in a fresh cycle, the ovaries have been active and so progesterone is made naturally. In a frozen cycle, your ovaries are switched off, so you have to take medication until the placenta takes over. I was also told about the latest research into progesterone and autism - hence not keeping me on progesterone after 10 weeks. It was so scary coming off the meds, but I trusted the clinic's advice and all was well.

Congratulations! Itā€™s more important to stay on meds until 12 weeks ish with a medicated frozen transfer (estrogen to down regulate the ovaries and progesterone 5 days before ET) as your body is producing any progesterone until the placenta forms. Fresh transfers are different because your body naturally produces some.
