Hello ladies. Just wondering if any of you have been prescribed clomid by gyne on nhs? how are you monitored while taking clomid? Do you do progesterone blood test every month and see the gyne too for the results ? Thank you so much xxx

Hi,

I was prescribed it by my NHS hospital’s fertility department. I was monitored on my first cycle, and again if they had to increase the dose. It involved regular scans, ovulation testing (at home) and then a blood test to confirm ovulation. Although the clomid itself was free I had to pay £300 a month for the cycle tracking element. Xx

Thank you, they did not mentioned about scans to me just the progesterone blood test. So basically you need to see them after each cycle to see if working and need to increase dose? Xxx

Mine scan to prevent multiple pregnancies - they’ll cancel the cycle and tell you not to have sex if it looks like you’re going to ovulate several eggs. I’m not sure if this is standard but it might vary between CCGs.

Mine stopped working on the 3rd cycle so my dose was increased and again they wanted to check but due to side effects at a higher dose my treatment got cancelled at that stage anyway. Best of luck to you xx

I might be that prescribed too at my first appointment. Why did you have to pay £300 per month?

For the cycle tracking - scans & blood work. It probably varies depending on your area but my CCG doesn’t cover this

Hi there, i was put in it and only monitored via a scan the first month. I wasn't offered any additional scans or blood tests. I guess it might vary by area?

can’t be of much help sorry but i’m about to be put on this in the next few weeks by nhs gynae for low progesterone and hydrosalpinx following a lap last week. My gp said it may not be a good idea though with me having a blocked tube 😩 let us know how you get on

I am sorry to hear that. I think gp is right you should try to fix the problem with the tubes then take clomid. Best of luck💖

I was prescribed clomid by community gynae. She did blood tests on day 21 to see if I ovulated during the month. She increased dosage until I did. Then I was sent away for 6 months and told hurry up, I am getting old (I was 35 at the time!). I was so incredibly moddy while I was on it. I'm amazed my OH stayed with me.

After 4 months I was in severe pain. Ended up in A&E who told me I prob had IBS! I went back to gynae. She just said she can do nothing for me. Next step is IVF. Awful service ☹️.

I saw a private gynae. Turned out both blocked follopian tubes were blocked. I also had cysts (cause of pain) and endometriosis. Thankfully my private health insurance covered the laparoscopy op.

My advice is to make sure physical checks r done first to ensure tubes r not blocked. They need to monitor u while u r taking it. Otherwise, how wud u know if it's working properly?

Diet has a huge impact on ovulation. Wen I came off clomid I continued to ovulate due to better diet. See a nutritionist if u can afford it.

Good luck.

Hey i am sorry about your experience.. actually i was lucky and had all tests done including laparoscopy too.. nothing else wrong just about to start clomid. 🤷‍♀️

Gosh sorry to hear of that traumatic time. You must have been in agony. Cheers for the advice thats useful to know. I had my (4th) lap a week a go to treat endo and then they diagnosed the blocked tube. One tube is clear. I don’t fancy taking clomid it’s just my gut instinct. He also wants to put me on Prostrap first to treat the endo whilst i wait for ivf but i will decline that too. I think a ref to IVF is best so they can decide about this blocked tube. 😩 Im trying to get a private appointment with IVF clinic as have a bit of insurance to use up on a consultation but they are saying they may not see me (even though i’m offering to pay £200 over the phone!) as i should be seen on the nhs

Really maybe give one more chance on nhs. Sorry just realised you got one tube blocked. So if is onyou i heard you can still get pregnant! So sorry dont know why I thought you meanth both

Maybe book an appointment with gyne and ask your questions?

Yeah seeing gynae but not for 6 weeks which i’m gutted about as yet another horrific period will pass me by where i’m needing to go to a&e for pain relief. Yes good news re other tube but terrified of misscariage risk due to the other tube leaking fluid. IVF will have a 3 month wait so he may as well refer me now. He wants to hold off so he can tell them ive tried for exactly a year (which will be March/April)

Sorry to hear about ur painful journey. Weird that private gynae won't see u. Hope NHS can help. Have u read the book "It begins with the egg"? I thought it was great. Something to think about 3 months before IVF to improve ur chances.

Hello.

I was on clomid on NHS . I only had blood tests done each cycle to see if I had ovulated . This was done by my gp . I was put on it for 3 months at a time. And was allowed on it for up to 12 months. X

Thanks . So gp prescribed clomid not gynae? And you didn’t see gynae after blood tests? Didn’t realised gp does too xxx

Did it worked? :)

Hi yes clomid worked every time but kept having miscarriages . The 4th time I was on clomid worked again and now I have two healthy 3 year olds. My GP was very good at giving me all the blood tests up up at the hospital and prescribing me clomid.
