Massive chocolate cyst. What happens now

I had a private scan on Saturday and my 2cm endometrioma on right ovary has got bigger. It's about 5cm now. My private clinic in Greece want me to have an urgent Skype consultation tomorrow at 10am to discuss what to do. They wouldn't give me any information other than that. Has anyone else been in this position and know what the clinic might advise. I cant afford a private laparoscopy so will have to wait for NHS. Does anyone know about the time scales for this? Feeling very stressed. Feel like the universe is telling me to give up.

I’m sorry to hear about what you are going through. I just wanted to say I had a 5cm endometrioma which had doubled in size when I had my baseline scan for ivf. The initial plan had been to go straight to ivf but as the cyst had grown quickly and was 10cm they sent me for a laparoscopy first.

I think I was quite lucky in that I didn’t have to wait too long I think my scan was mid December and I had my lap early Feb but waiting times will depend on your area and how urgent they feel it is. I know they often say for cysts under 5cm they tend to leave them and just monitor them. I had a friend who had a cyst which they had to burst when she had her egg collection and it didn’t impact things as she’s pregnant now.

I hope you appointment tomorrow is reassuring, thinking of you and keep your chin up, I know it can feel like constant knock backs but it’s good your clinic are on top of things and hopefully they’ll be able to give you some advice on next steps.

Good luck with everything xxx

Thank you so much. X I had a scan on 12 Dec 2019 and they saw the cyst then. I will speak to my gp on Thursday and will request a lap. I'm just sick of everything causing delays. I'm so anxious and stressed.

That sounds like a good plan and as frustrating as it is best to get everything addressed to give your treatment the best chance. Try to look after yourself and plan some nice things so you can look forward to things while you are waiting. Fingers crossed you get things sorted soon xxx

I had a laparoscopy in 2018 to clear all structures (including a large chocolate cyst) as I was told that the cysts and the fibroids would need removed before IVF to give it the best chance of success. I was just about to start IVF and they found another cyst (thought to be dermoid) and due to its size (sadly 5cm) they considered it needed to go! Cue second laparoscopy within a year!! 3 weeks after surgery I went for a baseline scan and another blood filled cyst showed (it refilled) I too felt like the universe was trying to tell me something!!! So depressing ....

However my clinic thought it was ‘resolving’ so I finally agreed I could start an IVF cycle!!

I’m pregnant now and the recent blood filled cyst has disappeared - so I would say keep going!! But hoping for you it doesn’t need surgery! x

Hello dear

I know what you are going through

But pls dnt give up

I too had huge bilateral ovarian cysts

But I conceived on my third cycle

Before the egg collection my infertility specialist drained the cyst as much as possible which made it possible to access the ovaries

I was actually referred for laparoscopic surgery by another hospital

But I didnt have to do it

And I conceived immediately after just one cycle at the new hospital

I had also got my cysts drained before the first ivf cycle but I guess I was overly medicated and embryo transfers at the first hospital didn’t happen quiet smoothly

I feel it really depends on the technique of your doctor

Pls ask your doctors if cysts can be drained

Because it can avoid damage done to the ovaries by laparoscopy

I suffered a lot during the treatment but since I conceived I dnt have any major pain and pregnancy so far has been smooth

I just completed 16 weeks

I wish you the best dear

Pls hang on and dnt give up

Thanks for your reply. Unfortunately they can drain it. Needs to be removed by way of laparoscopy

Hi

Sorry to hear that

May be it depends on various other factors

Endometriosis defers from person to person

I know this really sucks

And I understand the pain you are feeling now

I once went through the same thing

But you will definitely see success someday soon

Wish you all the best
