I had to have an MRI scan as it was suspected I had a bicornuate uterus. I’ve had my results today and it’s not an abnormal uterus I have it’s fibroids and lots of them! I need to have surgery to remove them and then at least 2 months recovery afterwards before I can go ahead with my transfer ☹️.
I have to admit when I got called in for my results I was expecting worse news but this still isn’t great. Has anyone else had to have this surgery?

Thanks for replying. I need a myomectomy due to the amount I have, I didn’t really take it all in at my appointment but I should be receiving my report soon and then I can go over it again.
Obviously I’ve been googling about it all though and it doesn’t sound great. Did it work for you as I’ve read there could be complications? And is it really as bad as it sounds? I’d never really looked into fibroids before as I thought my problems were due to other things.
It has kinda explained a few things and symptoms I’ve had over the years though, just wish I’d found out sooner Xx
I know it can be a real shock but honestly it doesn't need to be as awful as it sounds.
I had a full myomectomy where they did a 8in incision but this was mainly because my largest fibroid was 9-10cm across. When they had finally removed all mine they said I had the equivalent of a baby worth in there!
This was a while ago and since then I think they do keyhole and often vaginally. I didnt have any problems at all and I thought of it as a real positive as it means my womb is nice and baby friendly. To be honest I still have fibroids. they've gradually grown back, but not enough to prevent me trying to conceive or causing any issues. if they say you can TTC 2 months later it sounds to me like this is a 'Low maintenance' version and I am sure it will all be absolutely fine.
In some ways I think it is a positive as at least you know whats going on. I have been having fibroid surgery for 15 years and TTC for 4 and its only recently I had an MRI and we really found out what was going on. I know its daunting but try and think of it as a really positive thing towards getting your baby.
Thank you this is helpful and yes I guess it is a positive that I actually have some answers now and I’ll have a good chance after this.
Wow at how many you had, did you have symptoms before you found out you had them? I’ve had pelvic pain/pressure for a few years and get a strange sensation in my leg at the same time. I mentioned this to the nurse at my GP’s a few years ago and she said it was ovulation pain when all this time it’s been fibroids.
I got my report today and my largest looks to be 5-4.5cm with multiple others. Did you decide on the MRI yourself or was you referred? Xx
ICSIBaby86 had to have surgery, a myomectomy and she has just had her baby! Ive no experience but thought it would be good to have a look at her old posts! Hope it all goes well.xx
I had a myomectomy to get rid of a 13cm fibroid! The surgeon was so impressed by it, he took a picture and showed me afterwards. I was very upset originally when I was told I needed to do this- but they said if I kept it, I would either find it extremely difficult to conceive, or most likely to miscarry. For me then, it was a no-brainer. Given the size of it, I needed a bikini line incision and was suggested to wait 6 months. I was obviously gutted, but reminded myself that my uterus needed to be in it's best condition otherwise what's the point? Since then, they found a fibroid near my cervix and another against my (blocked) fallopian tube. I really didn't think things were going my way, but these were small and the doctor said they shouldn't get in the way. I'm now currently 17 weeks pregnant and I wouldn't have changed anything. Your patience is tested of course, but worth it in the end. Can't wait to meet the little one. Best of luck x
Wow 13cm is a big one, had you had problems with it or was it seen from a scan? Yes you definitely made the right choice and huge congratulations to you 🙂 what a lovely outcome. Xx
I had heavy periods and was very distended. But thought that was just bad luck and really the scan spotted it. I thought both would improve after the procedure but no joy!! Anyway, delighted it worked out in the end. Just praying now for a happy pregnancy and healthy baby. Soon it will be your turn x
Look at the positives beautiful 😊 your uterus is fine, you can have a baby, fibroids are easily removed! Yes it’s put a hold on trying for now BUT after you will have the best chance it the world to get your wish!!
You’re definitely right and thank you for your kind words 🙂. It really wasn’t the worst news I could’ve had and I was actually expecting worse, it was just a bit of a shock Xx
I was told I had a uterus shape like a heart and not an eggplant. How does this affect us to get pregnant. Should I be having a MRI? Thanks for you help.
Sorry I’ve only just seen your message. I had to have an MRI so that I could be properly diagnosed as it was only suspected that I had a heart shaped uterus. It turns out I didn’t have this though and mine were fibroids that were distorting the shape to make it look heart shaped. How were you diagnosed? To be certain I think an MRI or something would be needed but your consultant should be able to advise what will be best.
When I thought I had a heart shape and I looked into it and asked questions I was told it may mean any pregnancy I have could be classed as high risk and so I would need extra care. Hope you get your answers soon X
Hello, thank you for your reply. I was actually in the er and they did a transvaginal sonogram to see if they could find a sac after 4 positive pregnancy test. They could not find a sac and hcg levels were not high enough for pregnancy. But I will talk to my gyn and ask for a MRI. Thank you so much
