IVF round 3, do I need a break post failed round?

I have just received the devastating news that my 2nd FET hasn’t worked. We transferred 2 embryos this time, yet it still hasn’t worked. After my last failed FET I had a months break and went on holiday. This time I am tempted to start again as soon as I have a period. Has anyone got any advice on this and if going again so soon is too soon? Last time my doctor said it was up to me but usually people take a break....

Hi cch

I have gone straight to my 2nd fet after my 1st failed. Not sure about how it would work with a new ivf round. It might be ok as your ovaries will be settled. I am going to take a break if 2nd round doesnt work to get some extra tests done.

Thanks for your reply! Did you start as soon as you had the bleed post failed round?

Out if interest did you have a fresh round or was your 1st round frozen?

I had to freeze all after egg collection because I was at risk at ohss, so I didnt have a fresh transfer. I then waited for 2 bleeds before starting my first FET.

After I got a confirmed bfn from my clinic (following my first FET) I was told to stop taking meds (i was taking oestrogen and progesterone). I bled about 5 days later, had my baseline scan and they were fine with me starting again.

Thank you! The exact same thing happened to me with OHSS so have now had 2 FET and no fresh. Have you had your 2nd FET now?

Not yet! I will be having my scan next week to check lining! I would honestly just go one cycle after the next if I could, the meds seem to mess up my natural cycle, which really delayed me starting my FETs(it took over 50 days for my period to start.

My consultant has suggested having the scratch and a hysteroscopy and I cant have either of those done whilst going through a FET cycle.

Sorry your cycles havent work and hope you have better results soon xx

Thank you!

Fingers crossed that your lining is thick enough and you are good to go 🤞

I’m going to try and start again this week (as soon as my period comes), I could go back to back too, at least when I am injecting etc I feel like I am 1 step closer which gives me hope.

Good luck with your 2nd cycle xx

If you feel well and your clinic are happy, go for it. l might ask your clinic if they will be doing anything differently round 3 to improve your chances of success.

I’ve had 8 embryos transferred in total, once was a double, and never took a break as the length of time it takes was enough for me anyway between transfers and cycles and I just didn’t want to lose any previous time! X
