Hey all, I am not yet at the 2 year mark of trying to concieve so my doctor won't refer me. I have been trying to relax and go with the flow and also help myself as much as possible.
This weekend I have my first acupuncture session and I am so nervous! Any words of wisdom please! It's the needles I am scared off 😬

It was absolutely fine, no reason to worry. The needles dont hurt at all. Questions like where I am in my cycle, background with infertility, and other problems, medication or supplements you are on. I found it very therapeutic it helped actually talking to someone too so it was a bit like a counsellor. It wasnt too relaxing this time as it was an initial appointment there was lots of talking but she said next time she will dim the lights and you can lie there and chill, good luck xx
Go for it, nothing to be scared about. I find it all very relaxing. I actually think the acupuncture helped my periods. They are no longer painful or clotted.
Hiya, I had my first acupuncture session last week, was fine... it’s a bit strange looking down and seeing needles in you but it didn’t hurt (I was quite nervous about this!). I had to explain our journey so far and she explained the process she likes to follow for IVF. I’ve heard lots of positive things and decided I had nothing to lose by trying! Good luck xx

You should be referred after a year of trying, not 2! Insist your dr refers you (look up the NHS guidelines and take them with you to refer to), ask to see another dr in your practice, or change practices. Two years trying with no pregnancy is too long, and if you want to move to assisted reproduction you don't want to lose more time. Advocate for yourself and insist!
Ooo that's amazing to hear, I will try and get an appointment with a different gp! My partner had his sperm checked and all fine, but I have had one blood test which said I might have pcos. Apart from that my gp said I have to wait till 2 years. I will fight to be referred!
I would! You can also just say you've been trying for 2 years if it comes to it.
Hi, ive been having it for a month and they dont hurt at all, you cant even feel them once they are in. My lady massages me first to relax me before the needles bit. Its actually really relaxing
I’ve had acupuncture before and it was fine. I was really nervous about the needles but it didn’t hurt at all (the needles are really fine) and then I was left to just relax which was nice, good to have some time to just lie down and relax!
My acupuncturist specialised in fertility acupuncture and she asked me questions about how long we’d been trying, if we’d had any tests & what the results were, what my periods are like and what type of IVF we were having x

I agree with some16, do yourself a huge favour, go back to your GP or find another and quick. The IVF journey is a long one and any delays will only hamper your chances of success. I was fobbed off by my NHS GP for years and being foolish and ignorant I listened until one day I came to see this forum. My DH and I are doing our first embryo transfer on Monday at the grand old age of 46, when it should have been at 37 or 38, thanks to my GP doing everything in his power to put us off doing assisted reproduction!! In the end we went private - no choice!!

Thanks all for the replies! Has definitely put my mind at ease and also made me realise I should go see my gp again and ask/ tell him I want to be referred ASAP.
